The defender has vast experience of playing in the lower leagues in his native Spain.

Indian Super League-ISL side, Delhi Dynamos have roped in Spanish defender Carlos Delgado. The 29-year old becomes the fourth foreign signing for the Lions after Diawandou Diagne, Martin Guedes and Xisco Hernandez.

The Dynamos had a poor season last time out and coach Josep Gombau is looking to make amends in his squad. The departure of Gianni Zuiverloon has been a blow and hence Gombau has had to bring in someone who can fill the void in the heart of the defence.

“I am really looking forward to this challenge in India and joining the Dynamos. I believe we have a good squad for this season and I am really happy to be a part of it. I believe in coach Gombau’s philosophy and just can’t wait to start my training with the squad,” said Delgado after wrapping up the move with the Delhi-based ISL outfit.

Delgado came up through the ranks at Malaga and made his debut for the second string side back in the 2007-08 season. He has also plied his trade in the Eredivisie with Sparta Rotterdam. He had stints with Real Valladolid and Valencia, mostly as part of their "B' teams.

He then featured for Leganes and Almeria followed by Recreativo Huelva. He then went on to captain Albacete from the third tier to the second tier of Spanish football, which proves the pedigree he will bring to the Dynamos' backline.

The Lions have already roped in former Barcelona B defender Diagne and also the I-League's breakthrough star from last season Gaurav Bora. Now with Delgado, Gombau can be more assured of his defensive options.

The tactician expressed his delight on signing the defender as he said, “It’s a pleasure to have Carlos with us. He is player with a lot of experience in the Spanish league, having played a lot of games in the Segunda Division. He is a very strong left central defender with a very good control over the ball.”

The former Barcelona youth academy coach has got to get things right in the upcoming campaign, especially considering their performances from last term. The capital outfit will hope to improve on their last two campaigns as they finished eight on both occasions.
