GPL 2019-20: Sesa FA and Calangute Association share spoils

Richard Cardoz had a chance to score for Sesa FA but stroked the ball wide off the bar.

Calangute Association and Sesa Football Academy played out a goalless draw in the Goa Professional League match, played at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.

In the absence of head coach Charles Dias, assistant coach Armando Colaco was given charge of the Academy boys who made only one change to his side which drew with FC Goa in the last match as defender Biken Chabungbam replaced Sandeep S in the starting XI.

On the other hand, Calangute gaffer Sevirino Fernandes gave start to their newly signed winger Alesh Sawant along with U-20 Siddhant Shirodkar, while Denson Fernandes and Moises D’Sa were back in the lineup for the Beachside.

Calangute had a chance to surge ahead in the 3rd minute when Alesh made a through pass to Daryl Costa in the box but Sesa defender Myran Pereira cleared the danger before the striker could do any damage.

Calangute had two more chances in the next half hour as first, Alesh Sawant tried to find his teammate Gaurav Vaigankar from the freekick but Sesa custodian Sapam Singh collected the ball on time. Whereas, keeper Sapam came with a brilliant save in the 33rd minute when Gaurav’s long ranger was excellently fisted over the crossbar by the custodian.

At the other end, Sesa’s only chance of the session came in the 45th minute when Visnu Gosavi was brought down just outside the box by Calangute defender to give away freekick in the danger area but Visnu shot straight in the waiting hand of Calangute keeper Sanij Bugde from the 25-yarder set-piece.

They had another opportunity from the set-piece in the 63rd minute when Richard Cardoz sent a long freekick to Myran in the box but the lad failed to keep the free header on target as the ball sailed over the crossbar.

Sesa wasted another opportunity in the 73rd minute when Olvin Cardozo made a short pass to Shajam P in the box who squared it to Richard at the far post but the winger banged it over the crossbar from close.

At the other end, Calangute forward Daryl had the best chance to take his side into the lead when he was set up by their skipper Moises D’Sa with a long cross but the forward failed to capitalise on an easy chance with rival keeper Sapam out of position.

Another opportunity went in vain for the Academy boys in the 85th minute when Domnic Soares made inch-perfect through pass to onrushing Richard in the box who failed to tap the ball home with just rival keeper Sanij at the stake.
