Shooting included, Wrestling dropped from CWG 2026
The quadrennial event will also see the debut of golf and BMX in Victoria.
Shooting makes a return to the 2026 Commonwealth Games after a gap of eight years last held in 2018 in Queensland, Australia. In a major move, wrestling has been removed from the list a sport where India dominates at all the editions.
The host country holds the right to add the events they want to a part from the mandatory ones like Athletics that features in all the Games. At the Birmingham Games, shooting was excluded due to logistics but was scheduled to be held separately in India. Due to the pandemic, the standalone couldn't be conducted in 2022.
India has a strong contingent in Para Shooting as well. India won several medals along with a gold at the 2020 Tokyo Para Olympics.
The Commonwealth Games Federation has released a list of 22 sports along with nine fully integrated para sports set to feature at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Victoria.
