SUMMARY OF THE DAY: It has been a day in which India has clinched two medals, to increase their tally to five medals at the Tokyo Olympics. However, it could have been much better for the Indian contingent. The men’s hockey team accomplished their goal of winning an Olympic medal for the first time in 41 years. But, ace wrestler Vinesh Phogat suffered a surprise quarter-final exit.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched a silver medal, while Deepak Punia lost his bronze medal bout. Elsewhere, golfer Aditi Ashok continues to impress. Racewalker Sandeep Kumar faded away after a good start in the men’s race walk final.
If Ravi Dahiya had won the gold medal then India would have jumped from 62nd to 43rd in the medal tally. We really need that one gold medal.
We have seen two medal bouts involving Indian wrestlers within a couple of minutes. First, it was Ravi Kumar Dahiya who was up against reigning two-time world champion Zavur Uguev of ROC. It was a valiant effort from the Indian, but he ultimately fell short against the better wrestler technically. On the other hand, Deepak Punia took an early lead against Myles Amine of San Marino. However, his defensive tactics didn’t bear any fruit in the end. Despite, making it to the semi-finals, Deepak will have no medal to show for his efforts.
India has challenge the referee decision but lost the challenge which means one more point for Myles Amine.

Explained: What is Repechage in Olympic Wrestling?
10:42 AM: What a morning for India!! The Indian men's hockey team clinched a medal after 41 years, when they beat Germany 5-4 to win a bronze. This is the fifth confirmed medal for India at Tokyo. On the other hand, no.1 seed in the 53-kg freestyle wrestling Vinesh Phogat was handed an upset quarter final defeat by Belarus' Venesa Kaladzinskaya, that too via pinfall. She will now have to wait and see if she can enter the repechage round. Speaking of repechage, Anshu Malik who entered this round in the women's 57-kg category lost in the first bout. Golfer Aditi Ashok has been going strong, currently tied at the 2nd position with a total score of 133.
10:04 AM The morning events for Indian athletes have finished. However, we will resume at 12:45 when men's 20km race walk final starts! Wait for our summary of the Tokyo Olympics Day 14. Coming your way in some time.
9:20 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: Phogat was a promising medal contender for the Indian wrestling contingent. Given her unfortunate campaign at the Rio Olympics, a lot was expected from her this time around. However, Kaladzinskaya gave little to no opportunities to Phogat and defended phenomenally.
9:18 AM Here's the scoresheet.
9:16 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The Bulgarian produced a brilliant move with just 40 seconds on the clock. She pinned Phogat on the mat and successfully achieved a win by fall. Both of Phogat's shoulders were touching the mat and Kaladzinskaya was declared the winner.
9:15 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: If Vanesa Kaladzinskaya reaches the final, Vinesh will have a chance by Repechage. 130 crore Indians will now cheer for the Bulgarian, who was recently crowned the European champion. Defeats the Asian champion with some brilliant moves.
9:13 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: Vanesa Kaladzinskaya wins by fall, defeats Vinesh Phogat.
9:12 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: Just when things looked optimistic for the Indian, it is the Bulgarian who has regained the points that she was stripped off. She now has a 4 point lead!
9:12 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: It has been a lengthy stop here. And the review has been deemed successful! A point has been added to Phogat's tally and two points have been docked off the Bulgarian. The scorecard looks completely different now with just a two point difference between the two.
9:09 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The Indian contingent have posed a challenge here. They believe that Phogat's tenacious attack deserved some points there and that the Bulgarian's defense wasn't flawless.
9:07 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The Bulgarian is holding on tremendously well! Vinesh Phogat is all over her opponent but has failed to register a point.
Some terrific defensive work followed by an even better counter attack! Two more points for the Bulgarian. Things are looking bleaker for the Indian as the clock ticks on.
9:05 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: A brilliant display of wrestling here. An attack from the Bulgarian and a counterattack from the Indian! 2 points a piece here. Kaladzinskaya registered another point towards the end of that move as well. She increases her lead to three. Phogat seems to be on the backfoot and needs to make a move soon now. We are halfway into this tie with the score at 5-2.
9:04 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The Bulgarian has started well, registering two points for a very strong pin. Phogat did decently to restrict her to two points on that occasion.
9:03 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: We are underway! The Indian takes on the Bulgarian. It was this round in which the Indian had to retire in the last Olympic Games and surely that must be playing on her mind. An inspired performance is needed from the Indian.
9:02 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The first quarterfinal is around the corner with the players coming onto the mat. Vinesh Phogat looks in no mood for nonsense. This is going to be an entertaining contest.
9:01 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: Japan's Mayu Mukaida swept her opponent away in the pre quarters. She is the second seed at the Olympics Games and is the one to watch out for from the bottom half of the bracket.
8:58 AM Women's Freestyle 53kg 1/8: The last tie of the pre quarters is about to begin after which the quarter finals shall begin. Phogat's match is around the corner and the excitement is unreal for India.
Wrestling has been one of India's strongest sports at the Olympics. We have won medals in every summer games since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This year, Phogat is one of India's brightest wrestlers and a top medal contender.
Her top seed at the Olympics speaks volumes and she would be hoping to overcome the Bulgarian and progress to the semis.
8:57 AM A bout to go before Vinesh Phogat takes the mat. The commentator choked on his voice as India won the bronze in hockey. This shows how important it was for the nation. Can Vinesh make it two or even improve on the colour?
8:55 AM History will remember you. India will remember you. Hockey will remember you. Bow down to the Indian Hockey Team!
FIND AN INDIAN A BETTER JOY! WE WILL WAIT!

7:38 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: Koplova has managed to score 1 point over Anshu to take the lead in the match. However, it's been a cagey affair so far.
7:37 AM Men's Hockey - Germany score again. Nilakanta loses the ball and Niklas Wellen hurts them. The action in the second quarter has been fast and a treat for the neutrals. But Indians were not vigilant there and ended up giving conceding on a counter-attack. Germany 2-1 India.
7:36 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: Match between 19-year-old Anshu and 28-year-old Valeria starts.
7:35 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: Anshu Malik and Valeria Koblova, both at different stage of their careers, are on the mat. Who will win this one?
7:34 AM Men's Hockey - This has been the best phase of play for India. They're using possession well. Moving it with more cohesion and keeping the Germans pegged in. However, India must be wary of the counter-attacking qualities of their opponents.
7:33 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: Valeria Koblova has previously won a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Thus, it is not going to be easy for Anshu.
7:32 AM Men's Hockey - The break time talk has clearly affected how India is playing in the second quarter. They're moving the ball faster and using the width well. Germans are rattled right now. India should use this momentum to find the next goal and take the lead.
7:31 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: This game will be Anshu Malik's second chance to get a medal. Can the supremely talented youngster bring another one home?
7:30 AM GOAL!!!!! SIMRANJEET SINGH OUT OF NOWHERE!! The forward brings the game level with a brilliant reverse flick. India are level. The game is back to even stevens at 1-1.
7:29 AM Men's Hockey - Second quarter starts and India are chasing the game here. Germany have been dominant in the first quarter. They had four penalty corners but India defended them well. Graham Reid's men must be faster in moving the ball and use the width to create gaps in the solid German defence. Furthermore, the Indian defenders must find more composure. The game is still hanging in the balance.
7:28 AM Wrestling Women's Freestyle Repechage 57KG: Anshu Malik was defeated by Belarus wrestler Iryna Kurachkina in her first match yesterday.
Iryna scored four points in the first period and added four more in the second. Anshu Malik, on the other hand, scored two points in the second period by shoving his opponent outside the ring a few times. But that wasn't enough to keep the player going.
Now, she will face Valeria Koblova of ROC who won her 1/8 Final battle against Alma Valencia of Mexico by a score of 5-2. In her quarter-final round, she faced Belarus wrestler Iryna Kurachkina. At the end of the first quarter, both players had one point each. 7:24 AM Men's Hockey That's it! After resilient defending from India, the first quarter ends. A flurry of penalty corners gifted to Germany did not lead to any further goals. First quarter ends 1-0. India needs to do something different here.
7:23 AM Women's Golf Aditi has continuously scored at par since the 9th hole, standing on 3rd. Has a -6 score after 13 holes. She needs birdies and eagles. The top two have better scores than her. Back to hockey for now!
7:22 AM Sreejesh makes a save and the referee has given yet another penalty corner here! These are incredible scenes. Indian players are in discussion with the referee. Some shocking decisions so far!
7:20 AM Third penalty corner in succession for Germany. Flashes of semifinal defeat to Belgium already? India sure has a fight in its underbelly.
7:20 AM The attempt leads to another penalty corner and the first quarter just won't end for the Indians. It's nerve-wreaking pressure out there!
7:18 AM PC awarded to Germany after a video referral from the referee. Late, late drama here at the end of the first quarter.
7:15 AM First quarter ends and Germany have certainly taken the ascendency here. They lead by a goal to nil against India who have yet to test the German goalkeeper. The Men in Blue have to perform better in the second quarter and score the next goal. Sreejesh has kept them in the game with a few crucial saves.
7:11 AM Sreejesh makes a crucial save from Grambusch. Indian defenders must perform better here. They're letting the German attackers find room and take attempts at goal. Four minutes left for the end of first quarter.
7:10 AM Indian defense is looking very shaky. They haven't looked comfortable as the Germans are pressing them high and are using width to make gaps. Jan Ruhr makes a great penetrating move inside India's circle but trips down to lose possession of the ball.
7:07 AM Rupinder Pal's attempt goes over the bar after taking a deflection. However, the ball is directed inside the goal after subsequent events but the referee has denied the goal for an infringement. India turning on the heat on Germany. Keep up the pressure, lads!
7:06 AM Constantin Staib is the recipient of the green card. Meanwhile India get their first penalty corner of the match. Can they make the most of it?
7:05 AM Green card for Germany. First caution from the referee. India should take advantage of the numerical advantage.
7:03 AM Goal! Germany take the lead. It's a terrible start for India. The Indians haven't even breached the opposition half. Timur Oruz scores thanks to errors by Indian defenders. Germany 1-0 India.
7:02 AM It's burning out there in Tokyo at the moment! The temperature is 32 degrees with 58% humidity! Don't compare it with Delhi/North India, lads! It's just inhumane for hockey!
7:01 AM Germany get the first circle penetration and are moving the ball well. India must be steadfast in defense and keep their heads together under the scorching heat of Tokyo.
7 AM The first quarter begins with Germany playing in all whites while India are donning their iconic blue jerseys and shorts. Who will grab the early bragging rights here?
6:58 AM As the moment comes closer, it gets all the more tough for my nerves! Imagine what those 11 must be feeling at the moment!
6:55 AM Only five minutes left for the start here at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo for the bronze medal match. Expectedly, both teams are going to give it their all. National anthems will be played in all their glory and then the action will begin. Players are making their way now onto the turf. Is this the biggest game in their lives in the long time?
6:54 AM Germany have a little advantage on Head-To-Head. However, in recent times, India has been a different team altogether.
6:52 AM - Germany have lost three matches in the tournament. Two defeats to Belgium and South Africa in Pool fixtures and later, a semi-final defeat to Australia. As for India, they have tasted defeat twice, once in Pool fixtures against Australia and the semi-final defeat to Belgium. Both outfits will look to end their campaigns on a high, and bring home the bronze medal.
6:51 AM Do you think a medal will revolutionize hockey in India? I do. Here's my side of the opinion. For a sport that hasn't won at the Olympics since 1980s, this could well be a boost for the future.
6:50 AM Meanwhile, I wrote a detailed piece explaining why PV Sindhu is India's greatest athlete ever. I would love to hear your side of the debate. Drop your opinion in the comments section.
6:49 AM - India's semi-final defeat to Belgium by a 5-2 scoreline largely boiled down to penalty corners. Four out of five goals scored by Belgium were from either penalty corners or penalty strokes. India must be more efficient in defense against Germany. Furthermore, Germany are strong defensively, therefore India must make the most of their scoring opportunities.

6:38 AM Women's Golf - Aditi Ashok, after having a brilliant outing on Day 1, is in no mood to let the performances drop (and we're not complaining either!) After 10 shots on Day 2, she's tied 3th with a score of -6, having two birdies on the day. Looks in brilliant rhythm!
Diksha, meanwhile, hasn't had the best of starts. On her 2nd hole, she got a double bogey to make it +2. She stands on 58th position.
6:37 AM - Men's Hockey - A massive day for Indians at the Olympics. Indian men's hockey team are on the doorstep of making history here. Can they win the bronze medal match and secure an Olympic medal in hockey after 41 years? They're up against a strong Germany team. Match starts 7:00 AM onwards.

Diksha Dagar has had a slow start and will look to improve her game in the second round.
The Indian men’s hockey team will aim to end their 41-year drought for a medal at the Tokyo Olympics on day 14. The Men in Blue suffered a comprehensive 5-2 defeat at the hands of Belgium. They will now have a chance to clinch the bronze medal against Germany in a battle between the two losing semi-finalists.
Indian wrestlers pushing for glory at Tokyo Olympics Day 14
In wrestling, Anshu Malik will be back in contention for a podium finish through the repechage rounds. The teenager suffered a loss against Belarusian Iryna Kurachkina in her first bout. However, Kurachkina has made it to the final, enabling the Indian grappler to compete in the repechages. On the other hand, Vinesh Phogat is one of India’s biggest bets for an Olympic medal in Tokyo. Phogat will commence her Tokyo 2020 journey against Sweden’s Sofia Mattsson.
The men’s 20km race walk is an event in which India will have several participants on day 14 of the Tokyo Olympics. Sandeep Kumar, Rahul Rohilla and KT Irfan will represent India in this event.
