Indian Sports Calendar in 2023: Major events to watch in first week of July
The BWF World Tour resumes this week with the Canada Open.
A lot of sporting events are lined up in the upcoming week of the Indian sports calendar. The BWF tour after a month's stint in Asia will be heading to North America with the Canada Open 2023. After a couple of successful weeks in Africa, the WTT Contender event gets upgraded to WTT Star Contender next week at Ljubljana, Slovenia. Several top paddlers from across the world, including Indians, will take part in the competition ahead of UTT.
The All-important third grand slam of the season, Wimbledon 2023, is set to commence this week with Rohan Bopanna the lone Indian in the main draw. He will be in action in the men's doubles category.
Here we take a look at the events to follow in the upcoming week (July 03-09) in the Indian sports calendar.

Aquatics
The Senior National Aquatics Championships is set to be held from July 02-05 in Hyderabad. This serves as a qualifying event for both the Asian Games and Paris Olympic Games 2024. Tokyo Olympians; Srihari Natraj, Sajan Prakash, Maana Patel will look to qualify directly by breaching the qualification mark.

Badminton
The BWF circuit shifts to North America with the first stop at Canada. The BWF 500 tournament is set to be held from July 04 to 09. Top ranked Indian men's singles player HS Prannoy will not be featuring with Lakshya Sen shouldering the responsibility in men's section. Two time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu return back after a two-weeks break and is seeded fourth in women's singles.

Cricket
The ongoing Duleep Trophy will enter its final stages with West, Central, South and North Zone meeting each other for places in the final, which is scheduled to take place from July 12 to 16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The Indian women's cricket team will also be in action later this week for the first time since their T20 World Cup semi-final heartbreak in South Africa in February. The Women in Blue will start their tour of Bangladesh on July 9 with the T20I series. Harmanpreet Kaur and her side will play a three T20Is and as many One-day Internationals respectively.

Football
Defending and eight-time champions India are all set to meet Kuwait in the final of SAFF Championships 2023 on July 4 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The hosts finished second in the group stages and defeated Lebanon in the semi-finals to progress to the final.

- July 07-09: 3rd Rowing World Cup, Switzerland
Table Tennis
The last Contender series of the month is set to take place in Ljubljana this week. Like the last week, Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra are the only two Indian players to feature in the main draw with the rest placed in the qualifying draw.

Tennis
The third Grand Slam of the year is set to be held across two weeks from July 3rd. Rohan Bopanna is the only Indian to be placed in the main draw of men's doubles with the rest placed in the alternates list. Ankita Raina lost in the opening round in women's singles qualifiers thereby ending her stay.
