Asian Shooting Championship 2023: Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinches gold in men's 50m Rifle 3 Position

He won four medals at the recently concluded Asian Games 2023.

Rifle shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar finished India’s campaign on a bright note by winning gold in men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions at the Asian Shooting Championship 2023 held in Changwon, Korea. By scoring 463.5, the Indian went ahead of China’s Jiaming Tian who finished 2nd and, in the process, also earned Paris Olympics 2024 quota.

The 23-year-old played for exposure as India had already secured two quotas on offer in the event. The other quota was won by Kazakhstan’s Malinovskiy who finished fifth by scoring 427.1.

A total of five Indians participated in the event out of which only one could progress to the final. Akhil Sheoran was the second best Indian who finished ninth by scoring 587. He was tied alongside Korea’s Cheon Min Ho and also had 32 inner tens. Akhil fell behind on the account of countback thereby helping the Korean to get through automatically.

Swapnil Kusale wasn’t far behind either as he registered 586, followed by Gurjar Goldi, and Niraj Kumar. The latter two entered the competition with an RPO.

The final started with kneeling position and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was in the third spot at the end of the series scoring 154.2. In the following prone position, the Indian moved up by a spot after registering 311.3; just 0.3 points behind Linshu Du. In the end, Aishwary once again rose up by a spot to finish on top and clinched gold.

A total of six Olympic quotas were secured by the Indian shooting contingent at the Asian Shooting Championship 2023. Notably, Sarabjot Singh won the nation’s first pistol quota in 10m and was followed by Manu Bhaker who clinched in women’s 25m pistol.
