He also now has most wins for men's singles players at US Open after 15 matches.
Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive form in US Open 2023 and defeated Dan Evans to reach the fourth round in men's singles to become the youngest men's player since Pete Sampras in 1991 to reach the US Open fourth round for three consecutive editions.
The defending champion beat the Briton Dan Evans in four sets (6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3) to advance. With this win, Alcaraz has also now reached the fourth round of US Open for three consecutive seasons. The World No. 1 will next face Matteo Arnaldi in the round of 16 clash for a place in the quarterfinals.
His victory over Evans also made Alcaraz the men's singles player with joint most wins after 15 matches in the open era. This was 14th win at the US Open. He is also level with Arthur Ashe for most wins at the Flushing Meadows stadium. Alcaraz has won 12 of his 15 matches in the stadium.
Alcaraz turned professional in 2018 and soon became top-ranked men's singles player. He has been living up to the expectations for a while now, already having won two grand slam titles - US Open 2022 and Wimbledon 2023. Also, he is just the fourth Spaniard to be ranked men's world number 1, after Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moya and Rafael Nadal.
Moreover, he is going strong in the ongoing US Open 2023. He defeated British 26th seed Dan Evans 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in 3 hr 11 min to reach the fourth round of US Open. The game was forced to a fourth set due to Evans' momentary fight back, but the defending champion Alcaraz was too hot to handle for the Brit as he levelled up his game and moved to the fourth round of US Open.
Furthermore, Pete Sampras became the youngest US Open champion at 19 years and 15 days when he defeated Andre Agassi 6–4, 6–3, 6–2 in the 1990 final. Alcaraz became the second youngest US Open winner at 19 years and 129 days in 2022.
He is also the youngest ever to become the first teenager Men's singles World No. 1 at 19 years and 4 months in September 2022, breaking the previous record held by Leyton Hewitt who achieved the feat at 20 years and 9 months in November 2001.
