Novak Djokovic reaches 11th semis in ATP Finals, only behind Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl

Djokovic has won 98 ATP Tour titles so far.
Novak Djokovic will compete in the semifinals of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023, marking his 11th appearance in final four. Roger Federer (16) and Ivan Lendl (12) are the only two men’s singles player ahead of the Serbian in reaching the semifinals maximum number of times. The World No. 1 needed a helping hand to progress to the semifinals as he took three sets to get past Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz. He had to win the match in two sets to seal a semis birth by himself.
The helping hand came in the form of Jannik Sinner who overcame Holger Rune helping the Serbian progress. If the Italian, who had already qualified after winning his first two encounters, lost to the Dane, Djokovic would have been eliminated, and Rune would have gone through. With this Sinner has an unbeaten three-match streak winning against – Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, and Holger Rune.
US Open 2023 winner will now have an opportunity to win his seventh ATP Finals title and go past Federer, who has won six. Should he manage to pull off a victory in the final, it will be his 98th title, putting him one step closer to his 100th trophy. Winning the 100th tour title will make him the third male player to achieve the feat after Jimmy Connors – 109 and Roger Federer – 103.
Local hero Jannik Sinner thrilled the Italian fans and the ‘Carota Boys’ when he became the first Italian in over half a century to advance to the tournament’s semifinal stage. The carrot-costumed fans famously turn up for the matches to cheer for Sinner.
Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner will now clash in the semifinals on Saturday (November 18th), and the gloves will be off, ensuring the fans a good time, no matter who wins. Djokovic is playing at the ATP Finals for the fifteenth time. The Italian made an appearance in the 2021 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals as an alternate, with the current edition being his first time in the main draw.
