The Serbian is close to clinching his 7th ATP Finals title.

It’s the clash between the top two ranked players at the second semifinals of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023. Carlos Alcaraz, who became the youngest ATP Finals semi-finalist since Rafael Nadal in 2006, will meet six-timechampion Novak Djokovic for a spot at the final of the tournament. They are scheduled to play on Saturday, November 18th.

The other two players who reached the semifinals are Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev. It’s the fourth occasion, after 1990, 2004 and 2020, that the top four players have all advanced to the ATP Finals semifinals. Developing rivalry between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic has been entertaining for tennis fans and there is no doubt this is going to be one of the best matches of the tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz had an unsteady start in the season-ending event. He lost his opening match to two-time winner Alexander Zverev, but bounced back to upset Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the following encounter. The world No. 2 then defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-4 in the final group stage encounter; thanks to an incredible display of play to fix his semifinal spot.

Having already qualified, the Russian played some excellent tennis and put up a fierce fight. Alcaraz quickly took advantage of crucial service breaks to win each set. On the other hand, Djokovic overcame Holger Rune in three sets to open his group stage account. However, he lost in three sets against local favourite Sinner in the following fixture. After losing to the Italian, he knew he had to win his last group match against Hubert Hurkacz.

Meanwhile, he had to wait until Sinner outlasted Holger Rune in their final round-robin encounter which sent Djokovic into second place in the Green Group. Djokovic’s three group-stage matches have all ended in three sets, which means that over eight hours have been spent on the court by the defending champion.

The Serbian suffered his first loss in as many months since losing to Alcaraz in July at the grass-court major – Wimbledon Championships 2023. Djokovic has won six ATP Finals titles joint most alongside Roger Federer. He will have a chance to clinch record-breaking seventh title and to take a head-to-head lead against the Spaniard. Ahead of the iconic encounter, let us have a good at their head-to-head records.
