Jannik Sinner is also the first Italian to win the ATP Finals trophy.

World No. #1 Jannik Sinner capped off a spectacular year by winning ATP Finals 2024 in front of an adoring Italian crowd, giving them their first Italian champion at the year-ending event. By claiming his eighth ATP-level tournament win, Sinner has become the first man in 38 years to win the title without dropping a set. The 23-year-old did not drop more than four games in each set en route to a convincing title run.

Sinner, also an Australian Open and US Open titlist this season, had another reason to pop the champagne as he also became the year-end ATP No. #1 for the first time, again the first Italian to achieve the feat. Sinner never took his leg off the pedal en route to being crowned as the Year-End ATP No. #1 in Shanghai in October.

It has been quite the year for Sinner, whose eight tour-level titles include Grand Slam titles in Melbourne and New York. He also picked up titles at three Masters events – Miami, Cincinnati and Shanghai.

None among the ‘Big 3’ – Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer managed to win their first two majors in the same season. Guillermo Vilas was the last man to do when he won the French Open and the US Open in 1977.

A 70-6 win/loss record in the season makes Sinner the first ATP player to do so since Andy Murray garnered 78 wins in 2016. He is the only player to have reached the 70-win mark, with Alexander Zverev just behind on 69 wins.

After defeating Taylor Fritz in the championship round of the ATP Finals 2024 in a rematch of their US Open final, Sinner joins Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as only the third player to win the Australian Open, US Open and the ATP Finals in the same season.

The 27-year-old Fritz will end the season with a career-high ranking of World No. #4. Fritz was looking to become the first American champion time in 25 years but could not find a way past a resolute Jannik Sinner. The last American to triumph was Pete Sampras in 1999 in an all-American final against Andre Agassi.

Sinner will now travel to Malaga, Spain to join to the Italian Davis Cup Squad for their opening tie. Defending champion Italy will begin their attempt to hold to on to the Davis Cup trophy against 2016 champions Argentina in the quarterfinals.
