Sania Mirza, Rajeev Ram advance to Australian Open 2022 quarter-finals

Heavyweights Alexander Zverev and Maria Sakkari bowed out of the competition in the fourth round.
Sania Mirza, after announcing her retirement, continued her quest for a Grand Slam in the final year of her career.
Mirza and her partner Rajeev Ram advanced to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open. In the second round, Sania and Ram defeated Australia's Ellen Perez and the Netherlands' Matwe Middlekoop 7-6, 6-4. The Indian-American duo defeated the Australian and Dutch combination in 1 hour 27 minutes.
Zverev's quest for first Grand Slam goes on
Alexander Zverev, the World No. 3, suffered a crushing defeat in straight sets to Denis Shapovalo. This match lasted 2 hours 21 minutes and Alexander was eliminated from the Australian Open with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. This was undoubtedly one of the matches Alexander wishes he could forget. Despite being one of the tournament favorites, Alexander will have to wait for his first Grand Slam victory.
Nadal continues his winning streak
Rafael Nadal's winning run at the Australian Open continues. In 2 hours and 40 minutes, Nadal defeated Adrian Mannarino 7-6, 6-2, 6-2. Despite failing to break through Adrian's serve points, Nadal maintained his composure and eventually won the match. Nadal thus remains one of the favourites to lift the title, with Djokovic out of the picture.
Monfils continues momentum
Gael Monfils defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 7-5, 7-6, 6-3 to go to the Australian Open quarter-final. Monfils won the ecounter in 4 hours 34 minutes.
Barty continues run
World No. 1 Asleigh Barty advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-3. She took 74 minutes to finish the contest. Since the last Australian to win the the championship was Chris O'Neil in 1978, Barty would undoubtedly want to win the title and become champion. She thus solidified her status as one of the biggest contenders to lift the title.
Upset for Maria Sakkari
Jessica Pegula knocked out World No. 5 Maria Sakkari and secured her place in the Australian Open quarter-finals. It was the biggest upset of the day, as Sakkari lost the match 7-6, 6-3. Pegula wrapped up this aggressive win in 1 hour 35 minutes.
Keys breezes past Badosa
Madison Keys defeated Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the Australian Open quarter-finals. She completed the encounter in 33 minutes. Madison sealed a quarter-final spot after a dismal 2021 campaign and will hope to win the crown.
Krejcikova defeats Azarenka
Victoria Azarenka was defeated by Barbora Krejcikova 6-2 6-2. Krejcikova secured her place in the quarter-final with this win. She took 85 minutes to win the match. She was in control throughout, while Azarenka made 28 unforced errors and dropped five service games.
