ATP Barcelona Open 2024: Updated schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
Rafael Nadal makes a comeback after two years.
The Barcelona Open 2024, an ATP 500 tennis tournament, is steeped in history. Legends such as Ilie Năstase, Björn Borg, and Mats Wilander have graced the courts of Barcelona and claimed victory.
Rafael Nadal, with an impressive 12 titles, unsurprisingly dominated the tournament between 2005 and 2018. During those 14 years, only two other players managed to win at this venue: countryman Fernando Verdasco in 2010 and Japanese player Kei Nishikori in 2014 and 2015.
Nadal, who holds the record for the most titles here, will experience a homecoming as he is on the entry list. Notably, he became the oldest champion in Barcelona when he lifted the trophy in 2021. Unfortunately, fellow Spaniard and top seed Carlos Alcaraz will not compete due to an injury in his right arm. Alcaraz, the defending champion at Barcelona, had also clinched the title in 2022.
In the opening round, Nadal will face Italian player Flavio Cobolli, while Australian Alex de Minaur awaits him in the second round. Meanwhile, three-time finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas begins his campaign against Sebastian Ofner. Fans can anticipate an exciting third-round clash between Tsitsipas and Lorenzo Musetti, who arrives fresh from winning the 2024 Monte Carlo Masters.
In the bottom half of the draw, Casper Ruud, a finalist in Monte Carlo, will take on Alexandre Muller in his opening round. Alongside him, Andrey Rublev, another top-five seed, aims to halt his rankings freefall and secure a title or final appearance since Hong Kong.
