Carlos Alcaraz joins Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner in elite list with spectacular 2025 season

Alcaraz wrapped up 2025 as the year-ending ATP World No. 1 for a second time.

Carlos Alcaraz won eight titles in 2025, including two on debut appearance. The Spaniard, playing in Rotterdam and Tokyo for the first time, claimed both trophies for milestone wins.

The title run at Rotterdam was the first by a Spanish player in event history, while at Tokyo, he became the first Spaniard in 15 years to make the title run since Rafael Nadal in 2010.

The El Palmar native registered twin exploits to finish the season with a win-loss record of 71-9 en route to his eight titles. His impressive 2025 season places him in good company in two diverse and noteworthy lists.

Alcaraz is just the sixth man this century to win more than eight titles in a single season and finish with more than 70 wins and fewer than 10 losses in the same year.

By bagging both achievements in the same season, Alcaraz joins Roger Federer, Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and chief rival Jannik Sinner on the exclusive list.

Swiss maestro Roger Federer leads the group, having achieved the feat three times (2004, 2005, 2006).

Alcaraz also defended his 2024 French Open title in a manner few will forget. The Spaniard came from the brink in the longest match in event history to outlast Jannik Sinner and win his fifth Grand Slam final in a row. He also went on to dethrone Sinner in New York to win the 2025 US Open.

The World No. 1’s haul of eight tour-level titles made the 2025 season his best yet, eclipsing his 2023 season, when he claimed six titles.

Alcaraz was locked in a tussle for the year-end No. 1 position with Sinner, all the way through to the year-ending ATP Finals. The Spaniard settled the matter, finishing undefeated in the group stage and making a debut in the championship round of the season finale.

It was a career-defining season for Alcaraz as he finished with more titles than Sinner (6). The 22-year-old Alcaraz also secured the ATP Year-End No. 1 for a second time after 2022, denying Sinner a second straight  year-end No. 1.

In 2026, Alcaraz will begin by chasing more history. If he triumphs at the season-opening Australian Open, he will enter the record books as the youngest ever to complete a career Grand Slam.
