Carlos Alcaraz vs Alex Michelsen Live streaming, TV channel, where & how to watch: ATP Japan Open 2026
Carlos Alcaraz will take on Alex Michelsen for the first time in his career.
Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz opens his ATP Japan Open title defence against Alex Michelsen in a first-round match that looks tougher than the rankings suggest. The Spaniard won the title on his Tokyo debut last year.
This is only his third tournament back after nearly five months out with a right wrist injury. He reached the US Open quarter-finals before losing to Ben Shelton of the USA, then helped Team Europe win the Laver Cup in London. Michelsen is ranked 34th, but he arrives in form.
The 22-year-old American just made his first major quarter-final in New York and served against Frances Tiafoe, eventually falling in a five-set epic. The two have never met on the ATP Tour.
Michelsen’s game is built around his serve, with first-strike power that can trouble Alcaraz on fast courts. The latter remains the clear favourite on paper, but the bigger question will be whether he is fully match-ready after a quick turnaround from the Laver Cup.
