The Davis Cup tie will be played between 12-14 September.
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced fixtures for the upcoming Davis Cup. The Indian tennis team will compete against the powerful Switzerland side in the Davis Cup 2025 World Group I tie. The contest will take place on either 12-13 or 13-14 September. Being the host nation, Switzerland will get the opportunity to choose the date of their choice, for their clash with India.
India secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo in the Davis Cup World Group I play-offs earlier in February, earning their spot in the World Group I stage. Switzerland, on the other hand, were defeated by Spain 1-3 in their Davis Cup tie last month.
World Group I for the 2025 Davis Cup features 26 teams, comprising 13 nations that fell short in the 2025 Qualifiers 1st Round and the 13 victorious countries from the 2025 World Group I play-offs.
The winner of this India vs Switzerland tie will qualify for the first round of the 2026 Qualifiers, thereby keeping their hopes alive. The losing team though will be demoted to the 2026 World Group I play-offs.
All ties in the Qualifiers second Round, World Group I and World Group II will follow a best-of-five format. The round will commence with two singles matches on the opening day, followed by a doubles match and two reverse singles on the second day. Each match will be contested as best-of-three tiebreak sets.
These two countries last met on court in 1993, when Indian legend Leander Paes and Ramesh Krishnan led India to a 3-2 win in Kolkata. India lead Switzerland in head-to-head matchups by a slender margin of 2-1 and would be hoping to extend their domination.

The Indian tennis team have yet to secure a Davis Cup title but have been runners-up on three occasions: 1966, 1974, and 1987. India’s team could be bolstered by the return of their number one singles player Sumit Nagal, along with World No. 39 in doubles, Yuki Bhambri.
Bhambri recently won his maiden ATP-500 title in Dubai alongside Australia’s Alexei Popyrin. Nagal, who had been under fire for missing the last three editions of the Davis Cup, could feature this year. However, Australian Open winner Rohan Bopanna had retired from national duties in 2023 and hence will not compete.
Switzerland, meanwhile, have announced a star-studded Davis Cup lineup, spearheaded by three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, currently ranked World No. #165. The team also includes top Swiss singles players such as World No. #121 Alexander Ritschard, World No. #131 Jerome Kym, and World No. #172 Marc-Andrea Huesler. In doubles, World No. #101 Jakub Paul stands as Switzerland’s highest-ranked player.
