Jannik Sinner is searching for a new partner for US Open Mixed Doubles event after withdrawal of Emma Navarro.
The US Open Mixed Doubles 2025 has turned into a storm even before its start — withdrawals, uncertainty, and even the shadow of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner potentially pulling out have thrown the re-imagined event into chaos.
The Italian star was slated to partner with Emma Navarro in the mixed doubles event at Flushing Meadows, scheduled for August 19–20 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. However, she has opted to skip mixed doubles in favour of competing at the WTA 500 in Monterrey next week.
The 24-year-old American is reportedly prioritizing her singles campaign in New York after a disappointing run in the summer warmup tournaments. She crashed in the first round at the Cincinnati Masters and in the round of 32 at the Canadian Open.
With Navarro withdrawing from mixed doubles at US Open, Sinner has until Sunday, August 17, at 2 pm US time to find a new partner if he wishes to remain in the draw.
Meanwhile, Navarro is not the only withdrawal to shake up the 16-team high profile field. Paula Badosa and Tommy Paul have also pulled out of the event, leaving their respective partners Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula scrambling to find replacements.
However, in a twist, Pegula and Draper have decided to team up together. Their combined singles ranking of 9 at the original July 28 entry deadline, secured them direct entry into the draw.
Other withdrawals have opened doors for new entrants, such as Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti, who have now received direct entry.
Moreoever, the US Open mixed doubles event has drawn criticism for favoring marquee singles players over established doubles specialists. At present, the only regular mixed doubles team in the field is Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, while the rest of the draw is dominated by star singles pairings.
The other confirmed pairings include Carlos Alcaraz & Emma Raducanu, Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud and Elena Rybakina & Taylor Fritz.
