Serena Williams ready to get back on the tennis court

The 38-year-old revealed the reason why she thinks of the enforced break as a necessary evil.

Tennis maestro Serena Williams is raring to get back on the court whenever it is deemed safe to do so and admitted the fact in a chat with her elder sister Venus Williams during a live workout video on Instagram on Tuesday.

“I really look forward to getting back on the court. It's what I do best. I absolutely love playing,” said Serena Williams.

Alike almost all other sporting events, Tennis also has been put on hold at least until mid-July due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Roland-Garros has been rescheduled to begin in September while Wimbledon was cancelled for the first time in 75 years.

However, the enforced break isn’t necessarily the worst outcome for some athletes. With their packed schedules, they are rarely afforded a break to recover from their strenuous games and regain full fitness. It is also a blessing in disguise for sportspersons that had picked up injuries before the lockdowns were imposed around the globe.

Due to a number of reasons, many feel the urge to rush back from their injuries to help their side, which in turn hampers their abilities in the long-term. The 23-time Grand Slam Champion also feels that the break has aided her fitness and rejuvenated her before adding that she is ready to get back into the thick of things.

Serena Williams said, "This break is ... a necessary evil. ... I felt like my body needed it, even though I didn't want it. And now I'm feeling better than ever. I'm feeling more relaxed, more fit. Now I'm just like: Now I can go out and play real tennis."

The sibling duo of Venus Williams and Serena Williams holds a prominent place in the world of tennis after their exploits in the last two decades. They have won a combined grand total of 30 Grand Slam titles in singles and 14 titles in doubles as a pair.
