Jannik Sinner joins Novak Djokovic in pulling out of the season’s final ATP 1000 event.
Expectations were high on Jannik Sinner to win his eighth title of the season and a potential fourth ATP 1000 trophy ahead of the season-ending ATP Finals. Unfortunately, the Italian fell victim to a stomach virus, announcing a last-minute withdrawal from the ATP Paris Masters 2024.
Sinner has joined defending champion Novak Djokovic among others in skipping the event. The young Italian has trophies from four different Masters and looked poised to add a fifth. Sinner dropped 500 points after missing the Erste Bank Open in Vienna and will lose another 90 points after missing out on Paris. This will not have any effect on his No. #1 ranking as he heads towards the end of the season.
The World No. #1 has been in an orbit of his own since August. He made four finals successively and lost only one. Sinner reached the finals in Cincinnati, New York, Beijing, and Shanghai. The sole loss came at the China Open finals in Beijing to his frequent rival, Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner also won the inaugural Six Kings Slam, defeating Alcaraz in the final and pocketing a substantial US $6 million for his efforts.
In his most recent outing, the Shanghai Masters dropped just one set in the third round against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Sinner produced a clinical display in the final, dispatching four-time champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Why is Jannik Sinner not playing at Paris Masters 2024?
Jannik Sinner, who has been looking near invincible all season, has been forced to withdraw from the Paris Masters 2024 after being afflicted with a stomach bug. Sinner had won seven tour-level titles, including two Grand Slam titles and three Masters trophies.
Sinner was to take to the court on Wednesday in his first match and will now shift focus to the season-ending ATP Tour finals to be held in Turin, Italy, next month.

This is not his first injury or illness-related withdrawal this season. Sinner was diagnosed with tonsillitis just before the Paris Olympics was to get underway. He said missing the 2024 Games and his Olympic debut “was a huge disappointment.”
A hip injury forced Sinner to pull out of the Madrid Open before his quarter-final against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime. The same hip injury forced him to withdraw from the Rome Masters. In a press conference at the Foro Italico, home to the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, he said missing out on his home event was a tough outcome to swallow.
