Alcaraz is on a nine-match win streak in New York

Alcaraz brushed off a slow start to set up a third-round rematch with Yibing Wu. The duo last met in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai, where Alcaraz won in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-3.
In the second round, the World No. 3 was quick to bounce back from losing the opening set as he marches on towards another US Open title. Alcaraz is looking to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2008 to defend his title in New York.
Wu, who returns to the Top 100 following his victory over James Duckworth, is up to No. 96 in the ATP Live Rankings. The 26-year-old was impressive in his second-round victory over the Australian, recording 36 winners and only 12 unforced errors en route to victory.
Alcaraz bageled Faria in the second set as he reeled off eight straight games to set up the Round of 32 clash with Wu. The 23-year-old Murcian fired 43 winners and converted seven breakpoints en route to victory.

Match prediction
Alcaraz’s US Open title defence is gathering momentum, but Yibing Wu could be an intriguing third-round opponent for the No. 2 seed.
Wu is a clean striker of the ball, absorbs pace and redirects flat groundstrokes down the line, a tactic that can throw off balance even the fast-moving Alcaraz’s on-court rhythm.
Their previous match in Shanghai was closely fought, and Alcaraz will fall back on his signature baseline aggression and trademark drop shots to keep his Chinese opponent in check.
Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
