Spotlight is on the WTA contests ahead of Day 9 of the US Open

Day 9 of the US Open 2026 completes the Round of 16, with the other half of the draw finishing up its fourth-round business.

Saturday’s early Round of 16 matches went mostly to plan, with Aryna Sabalenka closing out Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-3 and Carlos Alcaraz cruising past Tommy Paul, a player he now leads 8-2 head-to-head.

Frances Tiafoe outplayed former champion Daniil Medvedev, beating him in straight sets. Today it’s the rest of the fourth round’s turn.

Iga Swiatek opens on Arthur Ashe Stadium against Qinwen Zheng, followed by Francisco Cerundolo against Alexander Blockx.

Later in the evening, Iva Jovic takes on fellow-American Coco Gauff on Ashe, before top seed Alexander Zverev closes out the stadium against Luciano Darderi.

On Louis Armstrong, Mirra Andreeva opens against Anastasia Potapova, and the standout match of the day will be when former champion Naomi Osaka takes on World No. 2 Elena Rybakina.
