Carlos Alcaraz has a 67–7 singles record in this season so far.
Serena Williams’ love for Spanish tennis stars just keeps growing. The American legend, who’s long been a huge fan of Rafael Nadal, now has another Spaniard she can’t stop cheering for—Carlos Alcaraz.
Even though Serena retired after the 2022 US Open, her passion for the sport hasn’t faded one bit. She’s still keeping a close eye on what’s happening in the tennis world, especially as Novak Djokovic, who broke her record of 23 Grand Slam titles in 2023, faces tough competition from the new generation.
At the Princess of Asturias Awards, Serena spoke glowingly about Alcaraz and what makes him so special. “Alcaraz is doing incredible things. I’m a huge fan of Alcaraz. I always call him when he plays, to cheer him on,” she said.
“The Spanish have been at the top for a long time. There’s Rafa, of course, but there are many other wonderful players.”
Serena believes Alcaraz could be the next great to challenge history, maybe even surpass Djokovic one day. “At this point, anything is possible,” she said.
“When [Roger] Federer started, no one thought he’d pass [Pete] Sampras, and he did. Then Rafa did the same, and then Djokovic. Carlos is very young, he has great rivals, but of course it’s possible. Records are there to be broken.”
And it’s easy to see why Serena is so impressed by the young Spanish sensation. As of now, Alcaraz has an amazing 67–7 singles record this season.

He’s already won six Grand Slam titles in his career, adding the Roland Garros and US Open to his collection this year, finished runner-up at Wimbledon, and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
The 22-year-old also dominated on the ATP circuit, winning Masters 1000 titles in Monte-Carlo, Rome, and Cincinnati. The only major he hasn’t lifted yet is the Australian Open but given his current form, that might just happen in 2026, which would make him one of the youngest players ever to complete a career Grand Slam.
Meanwhile, it’s been a more challenging year for Djokovic. The 38-year-old still managed to reach the semi-finals at all four Slams but didn’t make it to a single final.
This is something that hasn’t happened since 2017. The Serbian’s 35–11 record shows he’s still one of the best, but players like Alcaraz are clearly starting to take over the spotlight. And Serena seems to recognize that shift.
