Carlos Alcaraz reveals reason for playing Six Kings Slam

Carlos Alcaraz has shared his motivation for featuring in Six Kings Slam this season. The exhibition witnessed six players battling for the title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While Alcaraz went on to reach the final, his arch rival Jannik Sinner lifted the trophy. The Spaniard pocketed $1.5m for being the finalist in Six Kings Slam.
Alcaraz revealed that the prize money was one of the primary reasons behind his participation in the event. He said,’ if I say I went there just for fun or to play and forget the money, I’m gonna lie.You have to think that you want to earn money, you know, and that’s it. In Arabia it is the highest prize money ever in history, so that was a good motivation, at least for me.’
The world No #2 was interviewed after his opening match win against Nicolas Jarry during the ATP Paris Masters 2024. Alcaraz’s outright honesty of playing in Six Kings Slam has also earned him respect from the fans.
The Spaniard had defeated Holger Rune and Rafael Nadal in straight sets before reaching the final.While Alcaraz and the other four players received $1.5m, Sinner was awarded $6m which is currently the highest prize money in tennis history. The Italian defeated Alcaraz 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3 in the final.

After the final, Sinner and Alcaraz had different viewpoints on their participation in Six Kings Slam. Sinner shared that he did not play for money and wanted to compete against possibly the six best players on the tour. He also said that it was his first time in Riyadh and had a good time playing the matches in a way he wanted to perform.
Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in straight sets and beat Novak Djokovic in three sets to reach the final. The fans witnessed an epic clash yet again as the world No #1 managed to outclass Alcaraz. Both players will next be seen in the ATP Finals 2024 which is expected to start from November 10.
Alcaraz is aiming to be the second Spaniard to lift the title after Alex Corretja in 1998 and Sinner is hoping to be the first Italian ever to lift the trophy.
