These gentlemen have dominated the courts at Flushing Medaows.

The US Open 2022 is just around the corner, with top-seeded players set to compete against each other in this hard-court Grand Slam tournament. The qualifying rounds have already started from August 23, while the main draw will begin from August 29. The US Open draw will be announced on August 25.

Deniil Medvedev won the last edition of this historic tournament, where he defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the championship match. Former world number one, Djokovic, might not be a part of this year’s US Open due to his decision not to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

As just a few days remaining for the major tournament, let us take you to the list of the top 5 men with the most US Open titles to their name. Here is the list:

5. Ivan Lendl (3 titles)

Ivan Lendl is one of the most prominent players in the history of tennis. He was flawless during the 80s era. His three US Open titles are incredible, but his achievement of making it to the finals eight times on the trot was even more unreal. The legend did that from 1982 till 1989 in his remarkable career, in which he won the title in 1985, 1986, and 1987.

He also remained World No. 1 for four years and collected an incredible 1,000 victories in his entire career. With 94 career titles, Lendl remains one of the best players to have ever played the game.

4. John McEnroe (4 titles)

American tennis legend John McEnroe was an artistic player who was known for his volleys and unique shot selection. The legend played some of his best tennis on the hard court, and four US Open titles are proof of that. He conquered the court three times consecutively from 1979 to 1981. The fourth title came in 1984, when he beat Ivan Lendl.

After this victory, he set a record for the greatest winning season in terms of percentage since the commencement of the Open era. A win-loss record of 82-3 was a crazy achievement by this legendary American player. He won 96.47% of his matches.

3. Roger Federer (5 titles)

Millions call him the greatest, while billions compare him with other tennis players. If not the greatest, the Swiss maestro is surely the reason for many players who took up the game. Roger Federer is an absolute legend of the sport, with 5 US Open titles to his name till date. He won the title five consecutive times from 2004 to 2008. No one could match the skills that Federer had during that time.

The former World No. 1, known for his one-handed backhand, is still active but is currently out of tournaments due to knee problems. He is in recovery mode and could make a comeback at any time. Fans would be eager to witness Roger for the last time before announcing retirement. If he wins any tournament, that would have surely been an icing on the cake.

2. Pete Sampras (5 titles)

When Roger Federer was not there, Pete Sampras was the one who made the sport magical because of his remarkable skills. Sampras won the US Open title five times, with the first one coming in 1990 when he was just 19. That just set the tone for his future, as he was unstoppable after this feat. He went on to win four more titles, and the last one came in 2002 against his arch-nemesis, Andre Agassi.

The legend became the first player to surpass the twelve Grand Slam titles held by Roy Emerson. He also held the record for being the World No. 1 for six straight years from 1993 to 1998.

1. Jimmy Connors (5 titles)

James Scott Connors, commonly known as Jimmy Connors, was one of America’s greatest tennis stars. He became victorious at the US Open five times, including 1974, 1976, 1978, 1982, and 1983, making him one of the only three players who achieved this feat.

During his glittering 24-year career, he won eight Grand Slams and held the incredible record of appearing in the top ten rankings for 16 years. Connors was the only player to win the US Open title on three different turfs – clay, grass, and hard court.
