World Number #1, Iga Swiatek, is yet to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon.
Iga Swiatek has been in exceptional form recently. The top ranked singles player won the French Open, dominating her opponents in the competition. She only lost one set throughout the tournament: in the second round against four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka.
After losing to Elena Rybakina in April in Stuttgart, the Pole is currently on a 19-match winning streak, albeit on a surface different to the challenge she would be facing soon. This winning streak encompasses three titles — the Madrid Open, the Italian Open and the all-important French Open.
Having won the French Open four times and the US Open once, Swiatek will be keen to add a Wimbledon, a tournament in which she made just her first quarter-final appearance last year, to her already glittering cabinet.
Can she crack the grass code? Let us have a look at the opponents she might have to possibly face if she makes it to the final:
First Round: Sofia Kenin
Iga Swiatek will have a tricky first round clash at Wimbledon 2024, against former World Number #4 American Sofia Kenin. Kenin is a former Grand Slam Champion, having won the 2020 Australian Open. Currently ranked #48 in the world, she has not been in good form recently. In fact, she has not reached the quarter-final of any tournament, in which she has competed this year.
Second Round: Petra Martic
In her second round, Swiatek might possibly come up against World Number #74 Petra Martic. The Croat has reached the fourth round of Wimbledon thrice. With Martic not among the most fancied names in the circuit currently, Swiatek will be backing herself to beat her.
Third Round: Katerina Siniakova
Next up in all likelihood will be 27th seed Katerina Siniakova. While Siniakova is an eight-time Grand Slam winner in doubles, she has an unflattering record in singles. She has never been able to go past the third round in Wimbledon in singles. The Czech might have a tricky second round clash against former World Number #1 and three-time Grand Slam Champion Angelique Kerber, who has been woefully out of form, though, recently.
Fourth Round: Jelena Ostapenko
The fourth round might see Swiatek potentially meet Jelena Ostapenko. The 2018 Wimbledon semifinalist will present a touch matchup. It is worth noting that the Latvian has emerged victorious over the Pole in all four matches between them on the WTA tour. Ostapenko, who enters the tournament seeded 13th, will want to shrug aside her shock second round defeat at the French Open.
Quarter-final: Marketa Vondrousova
If Swiatek is able to match her performance last year at the least, she will in all likelihood have to next contend with sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova. The Czech made the world stand and watch last year, as she became the first unseeded woman to win the singles title. Vondrousova has been struggling for form and fitness but will be surely pumped up to defend her title.
Semi-final: Elena Rybakina
If Swiatek makes her first Wimbledon semi-final, the first seed could potentially run into fourth seed Elena Rybakina. Rybakina had clinched the 2022 Wimbledon title at the age of 23, becoming the youngest Wimbledon Champion since Petra Kvitova in the 2011 edition.
The Russian-born Kazakhstani player is incidentally the last person to have defeated Swiatek, before the start of the Pole’s winning streak. While fifth seed American Jessica Pegula is another name to watch out, Rybakina is the favourite to emerge out of her quarter.
Final: Coco Gauff/Aryna Sabalenka
If there are no upsets and the top seeds progress to the business end of the tournament, a blockbuster final showdown might await us. Swiatek could be up against American second seed Coco Gauff or Belarusian third seed Aryna Sabalenka.
Gauff, who won the 2023 US Open incidentally defeating Sabalenka in the final, has never made the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon. A player of her calibre would surely look to change that record. Interestingly, in a potential clash with Swiatek in the final, Gauff has a chance to avenge her recent loss in the semifinals of the French Open.

Two-time semifinalist Sabalenka too is one of the favourites to win the Venus Rosewater Dish. A two-time Australian Open winner, including at the 2024 edition, Sabalenka was expected to give the Queen of Clay a run for her money in a potential final clash at the French Open, but crashed out in the quarterfinals.
Having lost the 2023 semi-final to Ons Jabeur despite being a set and a break ahead, Sabalenka would want to go all the way this time.
