CM Punk left WWE in 2014 and announced his retirement from professional wrestling. He spent seven years of retirement trying Mixed Martial Arts and as Sports Commentator. In 2021, CM Punk called off his retirement and made his debut in AEW. Where he was successful with two world championship reigns.

He had two years with the company and got terminated from his contracts due to the non-disciplinary actions following his backstage confrontation against Jack Perry in the backstage of All In London. AEW canceled all his matches after termination on his hometown. This news has been viral across the wrestling industries for the past few days and is getting a mixed reaction. So how did WWE react to CM Punk's termination and possible return?

WWE Backstage reaction

According to PWInsider, there are a number of WWE Superstars who are against CM Punk's return to the company after his firing from AEW. Punk got terminated only a few hours after WWE Payback. It was reported that there were multiple discussions backstage regarding Punk's firing and his possible return to WWE.

It seems like there are a number of mixed views, but most of them were against the idea, one believed that it could be a chance to make big money for the company. However, they are not responsible for hiring Punk back to the company.

Mark Henry on Punk’s release

WWE Hall of Famer, Mark Henry who currently works on AEW backstage in a recent interview with Busted Open Radio said,

"When Dennis Rodman left, the team got worse. When he left Chicago, they got worse. San Antonio, they got worse. Detroit got worse when he left because he was a defensive stalwart. ‘I’m gonna go against your best player, and I’m going to make his life miserable. It’s going to affect his offense.’

"As far as Punk is concerned, it’s not the offense affected, it’s the money, the gates, the live events, the brass tacks dealing with licensing products and merchandise money coming in. Money is going to be affected. Still, everything is solved now. The problem is gone, and there should be peace and prosperity in life."
