WWE Superstar Spectacle in India: Big change in matchcard
WWE has signed a five-year contract with Sony Pictures Network India to host shows in India. WWE scheduled an exclusive show for Indian fans and named it “Superstar Spectacle”. In 2021 the first edition of the show was unable to be hosted in India due to COVID-19 restrictions, but was pre-taped in the Thunderdome and was televised on Indian Republic Day for Indian fans.
This year WWE will be hosting the Superstar Spectacle in India for the first time, which marks the first event in India since 2017. The 2023 Superstar Spectacle was hosted live at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on September 8th. WWE has announced two tag team matches previously which includes a championship match. However a match card has been changed for the event.
Updated Match Card
Match | Stipulations |
John Cena & Seth Rollins vs Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci | Tag Team Match |
The Judgment Day (C) (Finn Balor & Damien Priest) vs Indus Sher (Veer Mahan & Sanga) | Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship |
Rhea Ripley (C) vs Natalya | World Women's Championship |
Previously, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn were scheduled to defend the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against Indus Sher, but the plan was changed at the last minute as The Judgment Day won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at Payback. Now, the new champs will be defending their championship against the homies.
A new match has been added to the event, as the Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley takes on Natalya with the championship on the line. This is the third championship match between them after Rhea became the World Champion.
With WWE making last minute changes to the match cards, adding championship matches, expanding the superstar list and inserting John Cena and giving more importance to the event in India, grabs the attention of millions of fans worldwide on the event. Does the last minute change mean that the titles are at a major risk? Will Indus Sher become the Tag Team Champions in front of the home crowd? Will Natalya pull out a major upset in India?
Will Indus Sher become the Tag Team Champions in front of the home crowd? We need to wait for that until Friday for the Superstar Spectacle.
