John Cena has battled top names at WWE SummerSlam over the years.
The 17-time World Champion, John Cena‘s illustrious career in WWE is a benchmark for wrestlers who want to make it big in the business. The reigning Undisputed WWE Champion is set to compete at SummerSlam this year for the last time in his in-ring career in the company.
He will face Cody Rhodes with his title on the line at the first-ever two-night SummerSlam. Before he arrives for The Biggest Party of the Summer for the last time, here is a look back at the top seven WWE SummerSlam matches Cena has had over the years.
7. Seth Rollins (2015)
John Cena and Seth Rollins clashed in a ‘Title vs Title’ match at the 2015 edition of SummerSlam. Rollins delivered a spectacular effort against the veteran Cena.
Moreover, he got a surprising assist from Jon Stewart, who nailed Cena with a chair and helped Rollins become the WWE and United States Champion at the same time.

6. Daniel Bryan (2013)
Daniel Bryan brought out the best in John Cena in their epic clash at WWE SummerSlam 2013. Cena brought out his best wrestling chops against the remarkable in-ring competitor in Bryan.
The match was well-received by the fans and received an even louder pop when their favorite, Daniel Bryan, delivered a running knee on Cena and pinned him to win his first WWE Championship.

5. Randy Orton (2007)
The historic rivalry between John Cena and Randy Orton wrote a major chapter at WWE SummerSlam. It happened in 2007 when both were on the rise as top stars and had a stellar match for the WWE title. As the dust settled, it was The Cenation Leader who pinned Orton after an AA to retain his title.
4. Batista (2008)
The clash between the two biggest stars since the Attitude Era, Batista and John Cena, finally came head-to-head at SummerSlam 2008.
The two rising stars exceeded all expectations and it proved to be a marquee bout. However, the match ended in catastrophe when a top rope move by Cena caught in a Batista Bomb led to Cena breaking his neck and being out of action for months.

3. AJ Styles (2016)
John Cena wrestled one of the greatest matches of his WWE career against AJ Styles at SummerSlam 2016. The Phenomenal One and The Champ tore the house down with their monumental clash.
Ultimately, Styles picked up a clean win over Cena, the first major win in his first year in the company.
2. CM Punk (2011)
Following the Money in the Bank event in 2011, both John Cena and CM Punk laid claims to the WWE title. A match with Triple H as the Special Guest Referee was made to crown the Undisputed Champion. A highly captivating bout saw both rivals tear each other apart.
However, the ending was controversial as Punk pinned Cena, who had his foot on the rope, but Triple H missed it and still counted the pin.
1. Roman Reigns (2021)
It can be arguably said that John Cena’s last match as a top in-ring performer came against Roman Reigns at the 2021 SummerSlam. Cena unleashed his entire fury on the ruthless Tribal Chief and delivered a performance of a lifetime.
Despite that, Reigns put down the Cenation Leader with a thunderous spear and retained his WWE Universal Championship.
