Cena was the face of the company before Reigns took over
John Cena and Roman Reigns are not just the biggest stars of the WWE but also among the greatest wrestlers of their generation. Before Reigns took over as the face of the WWE, Cena ruled the throne for over a decade with unrivaled dominance.
The debate among fans on who is the bigger star is always ongoing. Although, both stars have dominated their respective eras, but when it comes to one-on-one fights Cena has never been able to beat Reigns. The two stars have faced off in a total of 11 singles matches with Roman reigning in all of those matches.
Two of these fights were broadcasted, one being at No Mercy 2017 and the other during SummerSlam 2021. However, the two have put on quite a show for the WWE fans whenever they locked horns in the ring.
John Cena leads Roman Reigns in number of WWE Titles
Cena has a record 13-time WWE Championship and three-time World Heavyweight Championship. In total, he is a record 16-time world champion. A record he holds alongside WWE legend Ric Flair.
Cena defeated AJ Styles at Royal Rumble 2016 to become the 16-time WWE Champion and tie Ric Flair for world title reigns at 16.
After taking a part-time role in the WWE, Cena shifted his focus to his acting career. He made his surprise return at Money in the Bank 2024 and announced his retirement plans.
The 16-time WWE champion declared that WrestleMania 41 will be his final WrestleMania. However, he will continue to compete in the WWE until the end of 2025.
Roman Reigns’ title dominance triumphs over Cena’s title Reigns
At first glance, it is easy to interpret that Cena’s 16-time WWE title reign triumphs over that of Reigns. However, Roman’s title run is one of the most dominant we’ve ever seen.
Roman has a total of six world championships to his name in WWE. He has held the WWE Championship four times and the WWE Universal Championship twice.
Reigns also holds the fourth-longest world title reign of 1,316 days. His title reign was also the longest championship reign since 1988.
Roman’s title dominance was ended by Cody Rhodes at the main event of WrestleMania 40. Reigns lost the Undisputed WWE Univeral Championship title to Rhodes.
While Roman has way less number of WWE titles to his name when compared to Cena. His dominance as a champion proves to be more dominant than Cena.
