OPINION: Why CM Punk will beat Gunther at WWE SummerSlam 2025 especially after Seth Rollins' injury?

The Second City Saint won the gauntlet match on the July 14 episode of WWE RAW!
On the July 14 episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk defeated Bron Breakker in the gauntlet match to secure the number one contender spot for the World Heavyweight Championship. He will now battle Gunther for the title at the upcoming SummerSlam.
While Bronson Reed tried to cause interference during the match, Jey Uso aided Punk to help him win. The match also saw the return of Roman Reigns, who made his return in the final moments of the show, aiding Jey and Punk.
Seth Rollins has vowed to not let CM Punk become a World Champion in WWE

Time and time again, Seth Rollins has made it clear that if there’s breath in his lungs, CM Punk will never become a World Champion in WWE. Rollins has followed through on his promise on multiple occasions, spoiling Punk chances.
Even after being eliminated in the men’s Elimination Chamber match, Rollins made sure that Punk doesn’t win and get a chance to fight for the title at WrestleMania.
Even at the Night of Champions 2025 where Punk was battling John Cena for the Undisputed WWE title was spoiled by Rollins who along with his henchmen Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked Punk. While Rollins tried to cash in, his attempts were spoiled by Cena when went on to pin Punk and retain.
Rollins later clarified that he had no intentions to cash-in on Cena but was just there to make sure Punk doesn’t win. However, now things might have changed for Punk as he was able to win the gauntlet match and will likely repeat this success at SummerSlam.
Seth Rollins is out of action due to injury
Seth Rollins suffered a freak injury during his singles match against LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The Visionary tweaked his knee during a spot when he was going for a moonsault from the ropes, due to the injury, an audible call was made during the match.
This injury has forced him out of action and despite Breakker and Reed’s attempt, Punk was able to win the gauntlet match. The Second City Saint might once again register a win against Gunther as Breakker and Reed will likely be occupied handling Roman Reigns.
While, beating Gunther is not an easy task, Punk can use his experience to pin the Ring General and capture the WWE World title for the first time in twelve years.

The bigger picture
CM Punk capturing the title would also open the door for an intriguing storyline of Rollins making his return and cashing in the MITB briefcase to win the title and once again screw the Second City Saint. The cash-in will also fulfill his dream of recapturing the title.
It will be interesting to see how the storyline transpires in Rollins’ absence and if Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attempt to interfere in the World title clash between Gunther and CM Punk at SummerSlam.
