Stephanie Vaquer capped off a memorable homecoming weekend in Chile by regaining the Women’s World Championship at Saturday night’s WWE live event in Santiago.
The historic moment took place at Santiago’s Movistar Arena, where Vaquer defeated Liv Morgan in the main event with Becky Lynch acting as the special guest referee. The win marked her second World title win, after her first title reign ended at 210 days.
Meanwhile, Morgan’s third World title reign came to an end with the loss in Chile at 147 days. The title change was at a live event, which isn’t the norm, and shocked many fans, as no one really expected the World title to change hands.

WWE wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown

According to the outlet, the decision to have Stephanie Vaquer win the World title was largely driven by the opportunity to create a special hometown moment, with Becky Lynch’s involvement helping WWE make the most of it rather than letting the opportunity pass.
“For Stephanie to go over where she did was simply based on location. They had the moment right there, and they didn’t want to squander that moment, so they did a good job of figuring out how to get there with Becky Lynch involved. They wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown. That’s the reason she is the new champion.”

The match finish saw Liv arguing with Becky before hitting Oblivion on Vaquer, but Lynch stopped counting after two to flip Liv off. Vaquer then took control, landing the SVB before following up with the Vaquer Inferno to pin Morgan and reclaim the World title.
On the other hand, Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported earlier that WWE also recorded a mini-documentary covering Vaquer’s homecoming in Chile. The footage, including her Title win, could eventually be released on the WWE Vault YouTube channel.
Liv Morgan & Becky Lynch put the World Champion on notice
After the loss last week, Morgan, accompanied by Dominik Mysterio, confronted Vaquer on the September 14 edition in Mexico City, leading to a mixed tag team match with El Grande Americano teaming up with the Women’s World Champion.
The Judgment Day laid out Vaquer, Americano, and even Rey Mysterio, signalling that the feud is far from over. On the other hand, Becky Lynch also confronted Vaquer in a backstage segment on the 9/14 show, noting that after everything she had done to help Vaquer in Chile, she believed she deserved the first opportunity at the title once she was ready to defend it.
