The 17-time World Champion is set to retire in December.

The G.O.A.T. of pro-wrestling, John Cena, is currently set to retire at the end of 2025. The retirement tour that began at Raw Netflix debut will conclude at the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.

Cena concluded his final appearance on Monday Night Raw during the November 17 episode at Madison Square Garden. He is now set to defend the Intercontinental title in a rematch against Dominik Mysterio at the upcoming Survivor Series PLE.

There are now only two appearances left on his retirement tour, and it seems like Cena is likely not going to taste victory in his last. Here are the four reasons why.

4. Passing of the torch

It’s common knowledge for pro wrestling fans that a star hanging up his wrestling boots usually elevates a rising star on his way out. The most recent example is Goldberg’s retirement match at the July edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Goldberg suffered defeat against the then-reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. Cena will likely continue this tradition and pass the torch to a rising star on his way out.

3. Survivor Series rematch

Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio on the November 10 episode of Raw to capture the Intercontinental title and become a Grand Slam Champion. Although Cena defeating Mysterio could have likely hurt Dirty Dom’s momentum, WWE likely did so to give Cena the only title that has eluded him all his career.

The rematch taking place at Survivor Series likely means Mysterio recapturing the title against Cena, and the 17-time World Champion will likely put over Dirty Dom in his final PLE appearance.

2. Long-Term booking plans

While John Cena is bidding farewell to the locker room, his final opponents are building their resumes, and what better way to build one than pinning the G.O.A.T. The win would also tie up in long-term plans for them.

In the IC title, stars usually don’t retire with the title and usually hand it over in their final matches, before retiring. Reports suggest that he will battle Gunther in the final match, which likely means he will drop the title to Dominik at Survivor Series.

1. Celebration, not competition

Cena’s final run is meant to celebrate his career, not add new accomplishments, so wins aren’t necessary to cement his legacy. Fans, even during his heel run, almost refused to boo him and were over the moon when Cena turned face, despite the lack of storyline in the turn.

While Cena winning the 17th WWE World title and capturing the Intercontinental Championship to become a Grand Slam Champion is a nice touch, many fans are less focused on the accolades and more interested in celebrating the memories and saying goodbye to their childhood hero and the Greatest of All Time.

How will John Cena’s final opponent be decided?

His opponent will be chosen through a 16-man tournament involving stars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and outside promotions.

When and where will John Cena’s final match take place?

Cena’s final match will take place on the December 13 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will emanate from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
