Triple H has a great legacy in the pro-wrestling industry

Triple H is one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He is a 24-time champion in WWE, which includes 14 World Championship wins. He is the second Grand Slam Champion of WWE and has a great legacy in the industry. He retired in 2018 and was inducted into WWE Hall of Fame in 2019.

The King is currently the Chief Content Officer of WWE and is the biggest mastermind behind the company’s creatives and operations. Hunter turns 55 today and here we look at his top five best matches in WWE history.

5. Triple H vs Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Backlash 2004)

At 2004 Backlash, Chris Benoit defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Triple H & Shawn Michaels in a Triple Threat Match. It is a WrestleMania XX rematch and all the three took the match to a whole new level. Both had their ups and downs during the match and everyone was so close to winning the match.

However, in the final moments of the match, Benoit took Hunter out of the ring and countered Michaels’ Sweet Chin Music for a Sharp Shooter and forced him to submit and retain the championship. The match received a 4.5-star rating and was marked as the best match of the event.

4. Triple H vs Cactus Jack (Royal Rumble 2000)

At the 2000 Royal Rumble, Triple H defended his WWF Championship against Cactus Jack in a Street Fight match at Madison Square Garden. This is one of the hardcore matches in WWE history, where both used many weapons to punish each other. Both survived the garbage cans, chairs, barbed wired boards and everything on the ringside.

During the mid-match, The King handcuffed Jack and used steel steps to punish him. However, The Rock came out and attacked him with the chair. A police officer released Jack from the handcuff.

In the final moments, The Game delivered a couple of pedigree onto the thumbtacks to win the match & retain his title. After the match, Triple H was carried out on a stretcher, but Foley brought him back to the ring and hit him with a two-by-four.

3. Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (SummerSlam 2002)

At the 2002 SummerSlam, Triple H fought Shawn Michaels in an Unsanctioned Match. This is the first match of Michaels since WrestleMania XIV. As this was an unsanctioned match, everything was legal in the match. Hunter started with a series of backbreakers to send Michaels back to retirement. However, Michels responded with a splash and diving elbow from the ladder.

In the final moments of the match, Michaels countered the Pedigree to deliver a Sweet Chin Music to win the match. However, after the match, The Game hit Michaels with the Sledgehammer and made Michaels leave the arena on a stretcher.

2. Triple H vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (No Way Out 2001)

At No Way Out 2001, Triple H faced Stone Cold Steve Austin in a 2 out of 3 falls match. They had a traditional singles match first, with Austin targeting Hunter’s arm, making him unable to deliver a pedigree on him. Whereas, Triple H targeted Austin’s leg. Austin picked up the win with a stunner.

The second fall was a street fight, where Triple H hit Austin in the face with the sledgehammer and performed the pedigree for the win.

The third fall was a Steel Cage Match, where both were locked inside the cage and both were not 100%, after the damage done in the first two falls. Both exchanged each other’s finisher for a near fall.

In the end, Hunter again hit Austin with the sledgehammer and Austin hit back with a wrapped barbed wire. Triple H fell on Austin and pinned him to win the match. However, after the match, Austin delivered a stunner to showcase his frustrations.

1. Triple H vs The Undertaker (WrestleMania XVIII)

At WrestleMania 28, Triple H challenged The Undertaker to a match inside the Hell in a Cell with Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee in an aim to end Taker’s WrestleMania streak. The match went both inside and outside the ring and involved weapons.

At one stage everything went in favor of Triple H, even the referee himself. However, Taker still didn’t give up and executed a Tombstone on Triple H towards the end to continue his streak with 20-0. After the match, Undertaker, Triple H and Shawn Michaels helped each other walk out of the ring together.
