While 2024 has produced some intriguing storylines so far, the year has also delivered its fair share of bad storytelling.

The global juggernaut of wrestling, WWE, has been making waves with its impressive business strategies that have revitalized the appeal of professional wrestling in recent memory. As the year 2024 commenced, the promotion did introduce engaging narratives, but it also delivered its share of worst storylines.

With the year halfway through, let’s delve into five WWE storylines that have been their worst storytelling so far:

5. Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre

Damian Priest entered the heated rivalry between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk when he cashed his Money in the Bank contract to slither the World Heavyweight title from McIntyre at WrestleMania 40. The duo had a few run-ins before their match was set for WWE Clash at the Castle. However, Priest was perceived as a transitional champion and weak buildup. Moreover, it enraged a majority of fans further after McIntyre’s crushing loss in his home country of Scotland, being a bad storyline in his own right.

4. LWO vs Legado Del Fantasma

The heated feud between the LWO, led by Rey Mysterio, and Legado Del Fantasma, led by Santos Escobar, involved turncoats, personal emotions and friends turning enemies. Despite multiple layers added to this storyline, it failed to draw any significant headlines and ended after both factions were drafted to separate brands in the WWE Draft 2024.

3. Rhea Ripley vs Becky Lynch

The rivalry between two top attractions on Monday Night RAW, Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch, over the WWE Women’s World Championship failed to meet its expectations. Although they delivered a highly intense showdown at WrestleMania 40, the road to the match with a weak storyline and no engaging segments placed it as the opener for the show and did not draw the attention that it was expected to.

2. The Pride vs Final Testament

The two major factions on SmackDown, The Pride (Bobby Lashley, Street Profits, and B-Fab) and The Final Testament (Karrion Kross, AOP, Paul Ellering and Scarlett), had been building towards a major program for WrestleMania 40 for weeks.

However, the fans seemed to develop no interest due to the lack of star power and a compelling storyline. Moreover, the storyline became an afterthought and did not generate any major traction, even with the addition of WWE legend Bully Ray and the no-holds-barred stipulation in the match.

1. Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso

One of the most highly anticipated storylines that had the potential to become a prime example of storytelling was the feud between real-life brothers Jimmy and Jey Uso. The rivalry began at SummerSlam 2023 when Jimmy Uso betrayed his brother, and over the next few months, it cost him multiple opportunities.

However, the feud, despite having so much history and family lineage involved, did not produce compelling segments that had the fans excited for the “Brother vs Brother” match. Moreover, their match at WrestleMania 40 itself was panned by fans and critics alike, making it an absolute failure in terms of a good storyline.
