WWE wants to take another step moving forward

Ever since WWE merged with UFC and went under TKO Group Holdings, the company has been subject to a number of changes. The main aim of the company is to make the company reach the global market and generate high revenue through successful shows.

The company has been hosting a number of international events in recent times and achieved major success, which created a huge competition among the host cities to host WWE’s Premium Live Event. Now a backstage report noted that WWE is looking to have a PLE style approach for the weekly shows.

WWE’s plans for Raw and SmackDown

Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio said that WWE has been hosting the B-shows on international venues, along with the pay-per-views and has been getting the site fees for the shows. On the other hand, the A-shows are hosted in stadiums and in arenas.

Meltzer noted that WWE is looking for a PLE kind of approach for Weekly TV Shows, Raw and SmackDown tapings, where the host communities need to pay them to bring Raw and SmackDown to their city like a pay-per-view.

Meltzer said,

“Right now, they’re just getting them for the pay-per-view shows, and not even necessarily every pay-per-view show in the United States. Although now that the B-shows have been pretty much moved overseas and they’re getting site fees for those shows, and the A-shows are gonna mostly be stadium shows – maybe Survivor Series will probably still be an arena show – but the idea is they’re working on getting site fees.

“They already do for Royal Rumble, SummerSlam and WrestleMania, and they’re working on getting them for Money in the Bank and Survivor Series, and now the next step is to get communities to pay them to bring Raw and SmackDown tapings in.

Significance of the Plan

Meltzer continued by saying that, if WWE gets it right it would be great business for them. Where the host city will be giving them the building for free and WWE will get paid for coming there inclusive of other benefits. It would make the host city promote the event as they wanted the event to be successful to make more visitors come to the city.

Meltzer said,

“Hey, more power to them if they can get it. They’re giving you the building for free, and you’re gonna get paid to come in, and you’re gonna get other benefits from the city – promotional and everything like that, they’ll help you promote your event because it’s incumbent on them for the event to be a success because the whole idea of spending that money is to bring people into the city and come to restaurants and stay at hotels and all that. We’ll see if they can pull that off. If they do, that’s transformative.”
