Dave Meltzer reported that, according to a WWE source, the company’s partnership with TNA is structured much like the agreements it once had with European independent promotions. Those past deals included a clause giving WWE “the option, for a set period of time, to purchase TNA.”

The report further adds that the agreement gives WWE the “right of first refusal to match any other offers for TNA.” In effect, this means any potential buyer would need to be on good terms with the Stamford-based promotion, since the company could just match the bid and acquire TNA itself.

This comes after Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported that there’s a wave of unconfirmed speculations circulating in the wrestling world that Lorenzo Fertitta might be looking to purchase the promotion.

Fertitta, alongside his brother Frank Fertitta the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in 2001 through their company Zuffa LLC. Under their leadership, the UFC grew into a global sports powerhouse. The UFC is now under the TKO banner alongside the Stamford-based promotion.
