Here are the five key takeaways from Night 1 of SummerSlam 2026.

The 39th edition of SummerSlam kicked off on Saturday, August 1 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Night 1 of the PLE featured six matches, with two World titles, two tag team matches and a Hell in a Cell showdown.

Both World Champions retained their title, while Randy Orton returned to attack Cody Rhodes and the Bella Twins turned on Paige, after losing to Fatal Influence.

In the main event, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar to hand him his first loss inside Hell in a Cell. Night 2 will similarly feature six matches, including three title matches, a number one contender’s match, a human monies on a pole match and a ladder match.

With the conclusion of Night 1, let us take a look at the five key takeaways from Saturday’s edition of WWE SummerSlam 2026.

5. The future of WWE

As mentioned, Oba Femi defeated Brock Lesnar in the Hell in a Cell match. Post-match, Brock embraced Femi and called him the future of WWE. If anyone needed reminding, WWE has put all of their weight on Femi, and this passing-of-the-torch moment signifies it once again.

WWE will likely position Femi in World title storylines, a chance they opted to pass over after Femi’s win in the King of the Ring tournament.

4. The turn on Paige & Brie Bella’s injury

After the defeat at the hands of Fatal Influence, the Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) turned on Paige, beating down the former Divas Champion to signify another heel turn for them. WWE could now build towards a throwback tag team match, with AJ Lee joining Paige.

However, Brie appeared to have suffered a shoulder injury during the match. If true, this would force WWE to change plans, and they might move forward with a singles showdown.

3. Liv Morgan’s first title defense

After capturing the World title at WrestleMania 42, Liv Morgan defended it for the first time against Iyo Sky. However, with WWE’s refusal to work on the women’s division, Liv is once again left with no real contenders, if Stephanie Vaquer remains out of action.

Two of the women from Judgment Day are likely not going to demand a title shot as long as Liv is the Champion, and with WWE’s failure to bring fresh faces into the World title picture, we might see Liv once again battling Iyo down the line.

2. Randy Orton’s return

The co-main event saw Randy Orton’s return as the Viper attacked Cody Rhodes, costing him the title match against CM Punk. The return, as suggested by reports, was to offer fresh opponents for Cody, which means when Kevin Owens returns, he will likely target Punk, as the reports also mentioned his return.

This marked Orton’s first appearance since losing the Undisputed title match at WrestleMania 42, and he will pick up the feud with Rhodes right where he left off at Mania in April with the attack.

1. Solo Sikoa steals the spotlight

Multiple fans and even us at Khel Now have said that Solo Sikoa as a heel is just another face on the roster. However, with a face turn and his impeccable timing, Solo can rival even R-Truth or Danhausen.

The former leader of the MFTs showed it during the match and even in the build-up. Murmurs of Solo rejoining the Bloodline have faced backlash from fans who are enjoying the iconic face run, and we hope that WWE opts to keep him as a face moving forward.

Reports have hinted at WWE rethinking the short-term face turn for Solo due to the positive reception, which only grew louder at the PLE.
