India passed the 100-medal mark for the first time in the competition history.
Indian athletes concluded their final day of competition at Asian Games 2023, leaving an indelible mark in the records of sporting history. The Indian contingent accomplished a remarkable feat that is bound to capture the attention and conversations of sports enthusiasts for years to come.
Indian athletes participated in various sporting events on October 7 at the Asian Games 2023, basically demonstrating their prowess across 11 different sports disciplines. These sports included archery, badminton, chess, cricket, hockey, ju-jitsu, kabaddi, roller skating, soft tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.
While medals were awarded in various sports such as wrestling, cricket and chess, the attention was particularly drawn towards the medals won in kabaddi, archery and badminton.
Number of medals presented to Indian athletes on 7th October
India concluded their previous day's campaign by securing a total of 95 medals. Today, an impressive milestone was reached as an additional 12 medals were added, propelling the overall medal count past the 100 mark.
The day commenced with Indian archer Aditi Swami clinching the bronze medal in the women's individual compound archery event. She overcame the challenge posed by Ratih Zilizati Fadhly of Indonesia to secure the victory. Then Jyothi Surekha Vennam won gold medal in the women’s individual compound archery event after defeating So Chaewon of South Korea.
In the final of the Men's Compound Archery individual event, Ojas Pravin Deotale and Abhishek Verma, both archers from India, competed against each other. Ojas emerged victorious, defeating Abhishek by achieving a score of 149-147 points. As a result, Ojas secured the gold medal, while Abhishek settled for the silver
The historic moment arrived when the Indian women's kabaddi team of India emerged victorious, securing the gold medal by defeating the team from Chinese Taipei. Notably, this remarkable achievement marked India's 100th medal in the overall standings.
India's badminton duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, achieved a remarkable feat at the Asian Games by winning the gold medal. This victory holds great significance as it marks India's first gold medal in badminton at the prestigious event. They defeated South Korea’s Choi Solgyu-Kim Wonho in two straight with a score of 21-18 and 21-16.
India emerged as the triumphant team in men's cricket, despite a rain-interrupted match, securing the gold on account of being the highest seeded team.
India emerged victorious in the men's kabaddi event, securing the gold medal. The highly debated match witnessed a series of challenges and delays during the closing minutes, as both India and Iran battled fiercely for supremacy. In the end, India prevailed over Iran with a score of 33-29, clinching the well-deserved win.
Deepak Punia clinched a silver medal in the men's freestyle 86Kg final, following his defeat against Iran's Hassan Yazdanicharati. This triumph came after the Indian women's hockey team secured a remarkable victory against Japan with a score of 2-1, earning them the coveted bronze medal.
The last two medals were added by the Indian Men’s and Women’s chess team. Both teams won silver for the country.

At the end of day 14, India ended their campaign and maintained its position in fourth place, securing a total of 107 medals, comprising 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals.
China holds the top spot in the medal tally, having accumulated an impressive total of 382 medals. Out of these, 200 are gold, 111 silver and 71 are bronze medals. Following closely behind is Japan, securing the second position with 186 medals, while South Korea is not far behind. Japan has earned a noteworthy 51 gold medals, while South Korea has secured a commendable 42 gold medals.

All the events for Indian athletes have concluded today. There are no events where Indian athletes will be performing on the final day of the continental showpiece. But they can be seen during the closing ceremony.
