Golden Day for India as archers and shooters delivered four golds in seven-medal haul
India enjoyed another strong day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 on Wednesday, September 30, adding seven medals to its overall tally.
Archery led the charge with three gold medals, while shooting added another gold. India also secured bronze medals in boxing and wrestling respectively.
The day also saw both Indian squash teams reach the semi-finals and assure themselves of medals, while the women’s hockey team entered the final after beating South Korea.
In tennis, Sumit Nagal advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals, although both Indian men’s doubles pairs bowed out in the last eight.

India began the medal action with gold in the women’s compound team event. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final to retain the Asian Games title. The Indian trio matched the world record in the process.
Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav then won India’s second gold of the day in the mixed compound team event. The Indian pair defeated South Korea in a shoot-off after the final ended 157-157, winning the tie-break 20-19.
The men’s compound team of Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal completed India’s clean sweep by winning the men’s team gold. India therefore finished the day with three archery gold medals.
Shooting added another gold through Neeru Dhanda and Kynan Chenai in the mixed trap team event. The Indian pair produced a score of 34 to set a new Asian Games record and add another gold to India’s shooting haul.
This was Neeru’s second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and her third medal overall at the Games.
Boxing produced two bronze medals for India. Priya Ghanghas lost 1-4 to China’s Yang Chengyu in the women’s 60kg semi-final, while Kapil Pokhariya suffered a 1-4 defeat against Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullaev in the men’s 90kg semi-final.
Both therefore finished with bronze medals. Lovlina Borgohain, meanwhile, defeated Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova 3-2 to reach the women’s 75kg final and keep India’s gold medal hopes alive.
Wrestling also added a bronze medal through Sunil Kumar in men’s Greco-Roman 87kg. After losing his semi-final, Sunil defeated the Philippines’ Callum Johnston Roberts in the bronze-medal bout to open India’s wrestling medal account.
Nisha Dahiya’s campaign in the women’s 68kg freestyle category, however, ended in the Round of 16 after she lost 2-4 to DPR Korea’s Pak Sol Gum and also failed to win her repechage game.
Both Indian squash teams secured medals by reaching the semi-finals. The women’s team defeated Singapore 2-0 in the quarters, while the men’s team also registered a 2-0 victory over Kuwait. Both teams will now compete in the semi-finals with at least bronze assured.
India’s women’s hockey team also booked its place in the final after defeating South Korea 2-0 in the semi-final. The result assured India of at least a silver medal, with the gold-medal match to be played later in the tournament.
Tennis saw Sumit Nagal progress to the men’s singles quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin.

However, India’s men’s doubles campaign ended in the quarter-finals, with Anirudh Chandrasekar-N Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri-Dhakshineswar Suresh both losing their respective last eight matches. Dhakshineswar Suresh had also exited the men’s singles event earlier in the day.
India also featured in track cycling, canoe slalom, judo, sailing, golf, sepaktakraw, sport climbing and esports. In canoe slalom, Pradhyumna Singh Rathod progressed to the men’s kayak single final, while Asmita Dey competed in the women’s 48kg judo event.
Indian sailors continued their respective races, while the golf competition began with India’s men’s and women’s golfers in action.
Asian Games 2026: Updated Indian medal tally after 30th September

India’s official medal tally currently stands at 60 medals—10 gold, 21 silver, and 29 bronze.
Athletics remains India’s biggest medal contributor with 24 medals, including one gold, nine silver, and fourteen bronze, while shooting has also become one of the country’s strongest contributors with multiple golds and podium finishes.
Archery added three gold medals on Wednesday, while boxing and wrestling added further bronze medals.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on 1st October?
India will have another packed schedule on Thursday, October 1, with medal opportunities across archery, shooting, wrestling, cycling, judo, sport climbing, and taekwondo. The compound archery individual events will be among the key attractions, following India’s three gold-medal haul in the team events.
Shooting will provide another major medal opportunity with Anish Bhanwala in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, while the cycling programme will continue with several track events, and Indian riders will remain in contention.
Wrestling will have medal bouts across Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle categories, while judo will also feature medal contests. Sport climbing and taekwondo will provide further opportunities for Indian athletes to reach the podium.

The men’s hockey team will face Pakistan in the semi-final, with a place in the gold-medal match at stake. India’s men’s cricket team will also be in semi-final action against Sri Lanka, while the men’s volleyball team will face Pakistan in the quarter-final.
The women’s rugby sevens campaign will also begin, with India facing Hong Kong and China in the group stage.
Squash will be another major medal opportunity as both the Indian men’s and women’s teams contest their respective semi-finals. Tennis will also move further into the knockout stages, with Sumit Nagal continuing his men’s singles campaign.
Sailing, golf, canoe slalom, sepak takraw, and other sports will also continue to feature Indian athletes across the day.
