Indian athletes won two bronze and two silver medals on day 2
Shooters Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil clinched silver and bronze in men’s 10m air rifle individual event, respectively, taking India’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 to six.
Himanshu and Rudrankksh also helped India win a silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle team event with Parth Rakesh Mane. Suchika Tariyal won a bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg MMA event.
Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar, and Vidarsa K. Vinod won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event on September 20. Elavenil also bagged a second medal in the individual event to complete a double medal haul.
India is currently placed 12th in the medal tally. China tops the medal table with 37 medals, including 22 gold.

India’s medal tally stood at six on September 21, with shooters winning three medals and Suchika Tariyal scripting history by winning a bronze in mixed martial arts.
In the men’s 10m air rifle individual event, youngster Himanshu Dhillon won the silver while former world champion Rudrankksh Patil took the bronze. The two shooters had earlier joined hands with Parth Mane in helping India win silver in the team event.
Dhillon aggregated 231.0 points, while Rudrankksh aggregated 230.9 points. Lihao Sheng of China won the gold medal.
Rudrankksh led for a while in the medal round, but Dhillon overtook him and finished second after scoring 10.6 in the sixth series.

The three shooting medals took India’s tally to five after two silver medals were won on September 20.
Tariyal’s bronze in the women’s traditional MMA 60kg event helped India notch up its sixth medal. It was also India’s first medal in this category at the Asian Games.
India also defeated Japan 49-24 in men’s kabaddi, crushed Indonesia 17-1 in women’s hockey and beat arch-rivals Pakistan 3-0 in women’s table tennis.
Indian boxer Sumit also progressed, defeating Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri 5-0.
Asian Games 2026: Updated Indian medal tally after 21st September
India won four medals on September 21 to bring its tally to six. Shooters Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil, and Parth Rakesh Mane put up a good show to help India win silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event.
Rudrankksh won the bronze with 230.9 points in the individual event while Himanshu won silver with 231.0 points.
Suchika Tariyal settled for a bronze medal in the traditional 60kg MMA event after going down to Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo in the semifinals. The Indian camp objected to the result, but the appeal was dismissed, and Teo was declared the winner.
What to expect from the Indian contingent on 22nd September?
Tuesday, September 22 will be a big day for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2026 as the Indian women’s cricket team will play the final, giving India another big medal chance. Indian athletes will also be competing in shooting, badminton, boxing, kabaddi and hockey.
India has sent a 503-athlete contingent and will look to better its 107-medal haul in the 2023 Asian Games.
India will face Sri Lanka in the women’s T20 cricket final at 10:30 am IST. This will be India’s biggest medal chance. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side made it to the final after defeating Bangladesh by 114 runs. Shafali Varma’s unbeaten century helped Women in Blue post 195/4 and then bowl out Bangladesh for 81. Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by eight wickets in the other semifinal.
The Women in Blue are the reigning Asian Games champions, having clinched the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

India’s shooting campaign will continue on Tuesday with the 10m air rifle mixed team event.
India’s Parth Rakesh Mane and Elavenil Valarivan will be competing in the event. Qualification and medal rounds are scheduled to begin at 6.15 a.m. IST. The The Indian rifle team has made a good start at the Asian Games 2026. Elavenil bagged two silver medals on September 20. On September 21, Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil won silver and bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event respectively.
Indian badminton teams have also made the knockout rounds.
PV Sindhu will spearhead the Indian women’s team on Tuesday, while Lakshya Sen and the men’s team will also be in action as they eye a semifinal berth.
The team events are of particular importance for India, with the badminton contingent consisting of top singles and doubles players like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, and Chirag Shetty.
