Asian Games 2026 Day 2 Results: Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil win shooting medals; Suchika Tariyal makes MMA history

Indian kabaddi teams started their title defence in style

Indian shooters continued to bring medals with two silvers and a bronze on Day 2 of Asian Games 2026. It was a repeat of Sunday’s event for women, as the Chinese topped the team event, and the trio of Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil, and Parth Mane finished second with a total of 1890.1 points.

The first two also made it to the finals of the individual event. Just like in the women’s individual final, an Indian was led for most of the final, but did not win gold.

Rudrankksh was leading for the first half, but the Olympic champion Sheng Lihao came back strongly to take the gold medal. A couple of poor shots meant that Rudrankksh had to settle for a bronze.

Thankfully for India, the silver was bagged by Himanshu Dhillon, whose consistent shooting secured the second place on the podium.

In the shotgun events, the women’s team finished in third place at the end of the first day with 132 points. The men’s team, with 136 points are placed in sixth place and with two days of competition still left, both teams would want to aim for the podium.

Also, these shooters will have a chance to make it to the individual finals. However, things don’t look good for the men, as none of the three is placed in the top 20 after the first day.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Raiza Dhillon at ninth will look to improve her numbers, while her compatriots at 14th and 16th would also want to target the individual medals.

The team events continued to bring success as the Indian women’s hockey team produced yet another goal-scoring spree with a 17-1 win against Indonesia.

Hat-tricks for Deepika, Rutuja Pisal, and Navneet Kaur helped India get three points and top the group. In table tennis, India produced dominating wins against Pakistan in both the men’s and women’s team events.

The Indian Kabaddi teams started their title defense in style. The men’s team began with a convincing 49-24 win against Japan.

Ashu Malik and Devank Dalal did most of the work in the first half, with Gaurav Khatri and Ankit Jaglan handling the defensive duties. Big guns Arjun Deshwal and Pawan Sehrawat played only the second half and looked to get some match time. The women’s team was also off to an easy win against Bangladesh with a 42-21 win.

In badminton, the Indian team got off to a dominating start in the men’s event, sweeping Bangladesh 3-0. Lakshaya Sen started the proceedings with a straight-game win. Ayush Shetty and Srikanth Kidambi then followed with similar wins to seal a spot in the quarter-finals against Japan on Tuesday.

Boxers, one of the strongest suites for India in the Asian Games 2026, started their campaign with Sumit Kundu dominating Bunjong Sinsiri in the first round. It was a unanimous 5-0 decision in favor of the Indian, as his Thailand opponent was found wanting for energy as the match went on.

In another combat sport, Mixed Martial Arts, India’s Suchika Tariyal won the bronze medal, making her the first Indian to do so.

Suchika had to settle for bronze after going down rather controversially to Singapore’s Hii Hoon Teo in the semi-finals of the women’s traditional 60kg category.

After a hard-fought battle, the match dragged into overtime, with the result going against the Indian.

A teary-eyed Suchika couldn’t believe the result and was full of emotion after the game, with her coach needing to persuade her.

There were also a few disappointing results on Monday. In Sepaktakraw, India lost to Japan, conceding the lead. India had won the first of the best-of-three matches. In the second match, India fought hard, but Japan edged them out. The Japanese trio relied on the momentum to take the game away from India.

It was a similar story in Soft Tennis, as the Indian duo of Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena were knocked out after winning the first two matches. They couldn’t win it in the next two matches, as they failed to move into the next round.

Disappointments also continued in Swimming events as an Indian reached the final but failed to produce a satisfactory performance for a second straight day.

Of the four Indian swimmers in action, only Srihari Natraj made it to the final, However, he finished last in the medal match of the men’s 50m backstroke.

Wushu saw brilliant performances, with Roshbina Devi winning her round of 16 game against her Bangladesh counterpart with a win by point difference. Aryan also moved into the last eight with a 2-0 win in the round of 16.

• Suchika Tariyal lost to Hui Hoon Teo (Singapore) 2-1 in the semi-finals of women’s traditional 60kg, wins bronze medal by virtue of being the losing semifinalist.
