Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 4, September 23
China dominates the standings at Asian Games 2026, while India exits from the top-10
Mirabai Chanu finally clinched the one major medal that had eluded her. The two-time Olympic medallist won silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event, completing her collection across the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
It was also India’s first Asian Games weightlifting medal since Bangkok 1998. Mirabai’s glory brought respite amidst an otherwise disappointing day for the country, filled with heartbreaks and setbacks.

In shooting, Manu Bhaker was the only Indian to qualify for the women’s 10m air pistol final, finishing fifth with 181.1 points. India’s men’s badminton contingent went down 1-3 to China in the semi-final despite a spirited fightback.

Shooting delivered two more bronzes through the skeet team events. Soft tennis too contributed a bronze through Jay Meena’s run to the semi-finals, while the women’s kabaddi team kept up their unbeaten run with a 37-23 win over Iran.
In wushu, Roshibina Devi advanced to her event final and will fight for gold next, while weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav finished eighth in the women’s 53kg category with a total lift of 195kg.

Japan had another strong day in the pool at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, with Shoon Mitsunaga winning the men’s 100m butterfly. China’s Xu Fang took silver, with Japan’s Katsuhiro Matsumoto claiming bronze.
China continued to dominate the wider medal picture through its wins in shooting and swimming, while South Korea claimed gold in the women’s 10m air pistol showdown.
Thailand pulled off one of the day’s biggest results, winning the equestrian team eventing gold after trailing in third place overnight. In the individual event, China’s Hua Tian successfully defended his title from the previous edition.

South Korea added another shooting gold through Choo Ga-eun, who broke the Asian record in the women’s 10m air pistol final with a score of 246.3, with China’s Shen Yiyao and Jiang Ranxin taking silver and bronze.
By the end of Day 4, China’s lead at the top of the table had grown further, with 48 gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze medals.
The difference between China and the rest of the field is massive as hosts Japan are placed second with 15 gold, 25 silver and 27 bronze, while South Korea occupy the third position with 8 gold, 8 silver and 25 bronze.
Kazakhstan and Thailand retain their place in the top-5. India’s haul moved to 12 medals overall, but with just a solitary gold, the country finds itself struggling at the 13th position.
