Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 6, September 25

China inches closer to the three-figure mark in its gold medal tally

India had one of its most productive days of Asian Games 2026 on Friday, with the shooting range and athletics track combining to boost the nation’s medal tally.

The day’s standout moment came early in the mixed 10m air pistol final, where Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet set an Asian record to win gold.

This was just India’s second gold of these Games after the women’s cricket team’s triumph earlier in the week.

Athletics did the rest of the heavy lifting. Gulveer Singh clocked 28:29.38 to take silver in the men’s 10,000m, finishing behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew

Baranica Elangovan created history in the women’s pole vault by becoming the first Indian to win an Asian Games medal in the discipline, clearing 4.15m to share bronze with Kazakhstan’s Polina Ivanova.

Manpreet Kaur added bronze in the women’s shot put, and India’s table tennis mixed doubles pair of Diya Chitale and Manush Shah closed out a 0-3 semi-final loss to China’s top pair with a bronze of their own.

Both the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams booked their places in Sunday’s finals, keeping India’s medal count climbing on a day that pushed the tally well past 20.

Updated Medal Tally after 25th September at Asian Games 2026

China’s Zhang Yufei won the women’s 50m butterfly gold in 25.41 seconds, ahead of compatriot Wu Qingfeng and Japan’s Rikako Ikee. Qin Haiyang added gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke, while Liu Junjie took silver and Japan’s Shin Ohashi bronze.

Li Bingjie triumphed in the women’s 800m freestyle, with Singapore’s Gan Ching Hwee and Japan’s Ichika Kajimoto taking silver and bronze respectively. China also won the women’s 4x100m medley relay, ahead of Japan and South Korea, while Japan’s Kodai Nishiono won the men’s 200m backstroke.

China also collected gold medals in weightlifting and canoe sprint. Yang Liuyue won the women’s 61kg weightlifting title with a 251kg total while North Korea’s Oh Kwang Ok topped the women’s 57kg category with 238kg.

In canoe sprint, China’s Sun Mengya and Ma Yanan won the women’s canoe double 500m, with Uzbekistan’s Shohshamam Sherzodova and Nilufar Zokirova taking silver and Vietnam’s Thi Huong Nguyen and Thi Huong Diep bronze.

China continued its medal-winning run in equestrian and fencing, with its dressage team securing gold with a score of 208.148. South Korea and Japan completed the podium, with India narrowly missing out. In fencing, Japan defeated Hong Kong, while China defeated South Korea in the women’s epee team final.

In artistic gymnastics, South Korea’s Hwang Seohyun won the women’s balance beam gold, with China’s Qiu Qiyuan taking silver and Japan’s Mana Okamura bronze. The Philippines’ Carlos Edriel Yulo also struck gold in the men’s vault, ahead of Iran’s Mahdi Olfati and Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki.

In Athletics, Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Khodjaev won the men’s hammer throw with 74.38m, ahead of Japan’s Shota Fukuda and Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Aldubaisi. China’s Chen Yujie claimed the women’s 100m gold in 11.06 seconds, setting a Games record, while Thailand’s Puripol Boonson also set a Games record to win the men’s 100m in 9.90 seconds.

The overall standings after Day 6 remain heavily one-sided in China’s favor, who extended their lead with 98 gold, 37 silver and 24 bronze medals. Japan follows with 28 gold medals, with South Korea, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan complete the top-5.

Despite excellent progress, India still sits at 12th position with 2 gold, 9 silver and 12 bronze medals. The country will hope to enter the top-10 on Saturday, as it looks to replicate or even better its performance from the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
