Deepika bags gold medal in U18 Javelin Throw National Junior Athletic Championships

The 16-year-old broke her own national record four times in the event.
Deepika the 16-year-old from Haryana has won the gold medal in the 37th National Junior Athletic Championships being held in Guwahati, Assam. Deepika broke her National Record (NR) four times which she had produced during the recently held Youth Athletics National Meet in Bhopal. At the Youth Athletics Meet, she created an NR of 51.84m and within a gap of two months broke her record four times.
All her throws were above the 50m mark and her four throws above her previous NR were (52.75m, 53.17m, 53.36m, and 52.62m). She also recently won the silver medal at the Asian Youth Athletics meet held in Kuwait. The youngster is turning out to be a bright star for India having won several National meets. Annu Rani the 29-year-old has been the flag bearer for women’s Javelin for the past many years and Deepika looks set to take over the mantle.
The 53.36m throw is also the Asian Leading throw in the U-18 category.
Currently, Deepika is being trained by coach hanuman Singh in Bangaon a small village in Haryana. Apart from training Deepika, coach Hanuman Singh trains several other young Javelin throwers Rekha and Jyothi who have won several medals at the National Level in multiple age categories.
At the recently held National Youth Championships, the top 2 places were won by athletes trained by Hanuman Singh. Deepika won the gold medal with Sapna won the silver medal with a throw of 48.76m. Deepika is the lone athlete to breach the 50m mark multiple times in a short span of time.
