Athletics Day 4 Recap: India win five medals, Parul sets new NR, five athletes enter finals at Asian Games 2026
India has now won 13 medals in athletics
India enjoyed another productive day in athletics at the Asian Games 2026, adding five medals to its tally on Sunday.
Ancy Sojan Edappilly and Sarvesh Kushare won silver medals, while Tejaswin Shankar, Harita Bhadra and Parul Chaudhary claimed bronze.
Ancy finished second in the women’s long jump with a best effort of 6.53m, while Sarvesh cleared 2.25m in the men’s high jump.

Tejaswin completed a podium finish in the decathlon with 7,934 points, while Harita and Parul finished third in the women’s 200m and 3000m steeplechase respectively.
Ancy Sojan wins silver in women’s long jump

Ancy Sojan produced a best effort of 6.53m to win silver in the women’s long jump. China’s Huang Yingying took gold with 6.55m in the last attempt, while Tan Mengyi won bronze with 6.46m. India’s Shaili Singh finished fourth with 6.42m.
Sarvesh Kushare claims silver in men’s high jump
Sarvesh Kushare cleared 2.25m to finish second in the men’s high jump final. Chinese Taipei’s Fu Chao won gold on countback after also clearing 2.25m, while South Korea’s Woo Sanghyeok took bronze with 2.22m. India’s Aadarsh Ram finished 13th with 2.05m.

Tejaswin Shankar bags decathlon bronze
Tejaswin Shankar finished third in the men’s decathlon with 7,934 points. Japan’s Yuma Maruyama won gold with 8,123 points and China’s Chen Xinghua took silver with 8,012.
Tejaswin clocked 4:33.09 in the final 1500m event, while Thowfeeq Noushad was unable to complete the competition.
Harita Bhadra wins bronze in women’s 200m
Harita Bhadra secured bronze in the women’s 200m final with a personal best of 23.20 seconds. Singapore’s Shanti Pereira won gold in 22.78 seconds, while China’s Chen Yujie took silver in 22.93.
Unnathi Bolland finished sixth in 23.46 seconds.
Parul Chaudhary takes bronze in steeplechase
Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a personal best of 9:08.67. Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi won gold in a Games Record of 9:04.36, while Kazakhstan’s Norah Jeruto Tanui claimed silver in 9:06.82.
India’s Ankita also set a personal best of 9:19.24 to finish fourth.
Indians qualify for men’s long jump final
Murali Sreeshankar and David Solomon Patturaj both progressed to the men’s long jump final. Sreeshankar recorded 7.84m to finish second in Group B, while Patturaj qualified with 7.62m after finishing third in Group A.
Indians progress in 400m hurdles
Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan qualified for the men’s 400m hurdles final after finishing second in his heat in 49.61 seconds. Yashas Palaksha, however, did not finish his heat.
Vithya Ramraj also progressed to the women’s 400m hurdles final after clocking 55.73 seconds.
Animesh Kujur finishes fifth in men’s 200m
Animesh Kujur finished fifth in the men’s 200m final with a time of 20.80 seconds.
Thailand’s Puripol Boonson won gold in 19.88 seconds, setting an Asian Record, while China’s Huang Yongyu and Japan’s Shusei Mizukubo took silver and bronze respectively.
Nandhini Kongan finishes sixth in 100m hurdles
Nandhini Kongan finished sixth in the women’s 100m hurdles final with a time of 13.45 seconds.
Japan’s Maho Fukube won gold in 12.74 seconds, while compatriot Hitomi Nakajima took silver in 12.78 seconds.

Mohammed Afsal progresses in 800m
Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalakath progressed from the men’s 800m heats after finishing third in his heat with a time of 1:47.37.
Krishan Kumar also finished third in his heat, clocking 1:50.38.
India progresses to women’s 4x100m relay final
India qualified for the women’s 4x100m relay final after clocking a season-best 43.65 seconds in the heats.
India finished level on time with Japan, with both teams progressing directly to the final.
Manju Rani finishes sixth in marathon race walk
Manju Rani finished sixth in the women’s marathon race walk final with a time of 3:40:17.
Priyanka Goswami, meanwhile, was disqualified under technical rule TR54.7.5.
Athletics medal tally after day 4
India’s athletics tally now stands at 13 medals—six silver and seven bronze.
The five medals won on Day 4 have further strengthened India’s medal count in athletics, with several medal events still remaining over the final two days.

What to expect from India on day 5 of athletics?
India will have several medal opportunities on Day 5, with Murali Sreeshankar and David Solomon Patturaj competing in the men’s long jump final, while Avinash Sable will feature in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final.
Gulveer Singh and Yoonus Shah will also line up in the men’s 1500m final, with Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh competing in the men’s javelin throw final.
In the women’s events, Anu Raghavan and Vithya Ramraj will compete in the 400m hurdles final, while Seema Kaliramna and Sanya Yadav will feature in the women’s discus throw final.
Parul Chaudhary and Seema will return to the track to compete in the women’s 5000m final, while Pooja and Gowthami Jayaraman will begin their campaigns in the women’s 800m heats.
The relays will also see Indian participation, with the mixed 4x100m relay team and men’s 4x400m relay team competing in their respective heats. The women’s 4x100m relay team, meanwhile, will return for the final after qualifying with a season best of 43.65 seconds.
