Avinash Sable suffered a slow start.
Avinash Sable had a disappointing outing in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event at the Silesia Diamond League 2024. He finished 14th with a timing of 8:29.96 seconds and struggled throughout the race. It was his second slowest timing of the 2024 season.
The 29-year-old is now placed 14th in the Diamond League qualifier standings for the men’s 3000m steeplechase event with three points. He set the national record of 8:09.91 seconds in the 3000m steeplechase during the Paris Diamond League a month ago.
Avinash Sable had a slow start during the race which featured 12 athletes who were in the final of Paris Olympics 2024. He was placed 11th after the 1000m mark as the race was mostly led by the Olympic champion, Soufiane El Bakkali. The Moroccan athlete was closely followed by Samuel Firewu and Kibiwot Abraham.
Amos Serem, the Kenyan athlete, led the race from the 2400m mark. Bakkali regained the lead as the final 200 meters saw him pushing his limits and gritting his teeth to finish ahead of Serem. There was a bit of shoulder contact between both athletes before the final hurdle.

Bakkali finished first with a season best timing of 8:04.29 seconds even though he slowed down a bit early from the finish line. Serem came in second with a timing of 8:04.29 and was only three hundredth thousand seconds behind Bakkali. Firewu’s final sprint was rewarded with a timing of 8:04.34 seconds as he was placed third.
Daniel Arce of Spain also registered his personal best timings of 8:08:45 seconds. The top three athletes had a four second lead on their rivals. It was a highly competitive race as third place Firewu’s timing was two seconds ahead of Bakkali’s Olympic winning time at Paris two weeks ago.
Meanwhile India’s run came to an end at the Silesia Diamond League 2024 as Sable was the only athlete to compete. He will now hope to improve his timings in order to qualify for the Wanda Diamond League finals as only the top six athletes are eligible to compete in the event.
