The South Korean will play a major role in the Sudirman Cup.

The WR 2 An Se Young contested the sixth final in her sixth tournament of the year. She becomes the second women’s singles shuttler, after former WR 1 Tai Tzu Ying, to achieve this unique feat. The 21-year-old South Korean lost to Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the final of the recently concluded Badminton Asia Championships 2023.

The 2017 Asian Junior Championships gold medallist started the season on a positive note by finishing as the runner-up in the BWF Petronas Malaysia Open. The South Korean won back-to-back tournaments (India Open and Indonesia Masters) and was on a ten-match winning streak. An Se Young finished the Asian circuit winning 14 out of the 15 BWF tour matches.

After a month’s break, the WR 2 started from where she left off in the Asian circuit finishing as the finalist in the German Open. The most important win for An Se Young was during the All England Open Badminton Championships where she defeated reigning Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei in 75 minutes.

An Se Young missed out on winning the maiden gold medal in the Badminton Asia Championships 2023. She won the bronze medal in the previous edition but went a step further this time to reach the final and clinch the silver medal. She will next be in action at the Sudirman Cup (mixed team championships) which is set to be held in China.
