The Malaysian badminton team enter the tournament as the third-highest seed team and favourite to advance from Group C.

Sudirman Cup 2023 begins on 14th May 2023 and will go until 21st May 2023. The Malaysian badminton team are in Group C alongside India, Chinese Taipei, and Australia. Group C, for many, is also the Group of Death as it is the only group with three top-10 ranked teams in the world.

While Malaysia, on paper, looks to be the strongest side of the group and the favourite to advance as the group leaders, it would be unwise to take the likes of India and Chinese Taipei or even Australia, for that matter, lightly. On their day, all three teams can get the better of the Malaysian badminton team. And so, the bronze medalists of the 2021 edition would want to keep their weather eyes on the opponents.

India would want to prove to the world that the Thomas Cup win of last year wasn't a fluke, and the Chinese Taipei always like to punch above their weight, even if the best they have managed so far in the competition is reaching the quarter-finals.

Who is hosting Sudirman Cup 2023?

The most dominant side of the tournament, China, will be hosting the Sudirman Cup 2023. The reigning champions are hosting the mixed-team World Cup at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in Suzhou. The dates for the tournament are 14th May to 21st May 2023.

What is the format of Sudirman Cup 2023?

16 teams participate with four groups of four teams each. Each team plays the other three of the group once, and the top two teams with the most points advance to the knockout stages. The eight teams advanced to the knockout stages are drawn randomly against each other based on two constraints - teams from the same group don't play each other in the quarter-finals, and the winners of the groups play the second-best teams of the other groups.

The teams that advanced to the semi-finals are guaranteed at least a bronze medal. Winners of the semi-finals play in the final, and the losing teams win the bronze medals.

Two singles (men's singles and women's singles) and three doubles (men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles) will happen in a tie of the Sudirman Cup 2023. The team with the most wins seals the tie.
