BWF World Championships 2023 Day 2 Highlights: Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy advance to pre-quarters; PV Sindhu knocked out

Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen and WR-9 HS Prannoy comfortably reached the next round after putting in dominating performances in the opening day of BWF World Championships 2023. However, the Indian mixed doubles pair of Sikki Reddy and Rohan Kapoor faltered in the fag end to make an early exit from the prestigious tournament.
Later in the opening day, fourth seed Kenta Nishimoto took his revenge by defeating Kidambi Srikanth in straight games. Two weeks prior to BWF World Championships 2023, Nishimoto lost in the opening round to Srikanth at the Australian Open.
Going into day 2, the next set to of Indians will be starting their journey in Copenhagen, Denmark. Two-time Olympic medalist, PV Sindhu will embark her journey by taking on Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara who has off late been recovering from injuries. Both the players have met each others 18 times enjoying a (9-9) h2h.
Other Indians in the fray, HS Prannoy is set to take on Indonesia’s Dwi Wardoyo. After Ginting’s withdrawal, Jonatan Christie was the top seeded Indonesian; but exited in the opening round with Wardoyo the lone men’s singles participant left. On the other hand, Lakshya Sen will be up against Jeon Hyeok Jin with the latter enjoying a (1-0) h2h.
Like yesterday, India will start its day with the mixed doubles match featuring Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan. With Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy bowing out, all eyes will on the Venkat and Juhi in the mixed doubles section.

Rohan Kapoor/Sikki Reddy lost to Adam Hall/Julie Macpherson (14-21, 22-20, 18-21)
