Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, ranked 11th overall, set the tone for the gold campaign with a dominant performance in the opening singles rubber, defeating the 17th-ranked Supanida Katethong 21-12, 21-12.
After Sindhu’s victory, the dynamic pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand carried on India’s momentum. After a fiercely contested match, they defeated Rawinda Prajongjai and Jongkolphan Kititharakul, ranked 10th, to give the Indian team a 2-0 lead.
But Thailand rallied, with Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard defeating Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra in the doubles match to level the score at 2-2 and Busanan Ongbamrungphan defeating Ashmita Chaliha in the second singles rubber.
Anmol Kharb showed nerves of steel and defeated world No. 45 Pornpicha Choeikeewong with a commanding 21-14, 21-9 victory to complete India’s historic victory. Badminton Asia Team Championship offered some valuable point for all contingent.
