Following their latest triumphs at the HYLO Open, Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen have progressed in the latest BWF rankings. While Sindhu, who is a former World No. 2, climbed two spots to enter the top six in women’s singles, Sen moved up a place to the 13th position.

Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt in straight games (21-12, 21-14) to win the women’s singles title in Germany, her second BWF title of the year. The match ended in 38 minutes as the two-time Olympic medalist displayed her prowess in Saarlandhalle.

A week before, PV Sindhu returned to the top 10 after her runner-up at the French Open Super 750 in Paris.

In the French capital, she secured wins over the likes of Japan’s Hina Akechi, Taiwan’s Chiu Pin-chian, and Thailand’s Supanida Katethong to reach the final, where she faced tough competition from South Korea’s An Se-young. The 31-year-old won the first game against but ultimately lost the match 16-21, 21-11, 21-12.

The last time Sindhu was in the top seven of BWF rankings was in January 2022. Since then, she has struggled to stay consistent on the world tour due to injury setbacks and form.

However, considering her current form, it seems the former world champion is set for another prime in her career. Sindhu’s best-ever BWF ranking was 2, achieved nine years ago in April 2022.

On the other side, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lakshya Sen also won the men’s singles event in Germany. After a disappointing exit from the French Open last month, the 25-year-old made a crucial return by winning the Hylo Open.

After playing a one-hour marathon against Finland’s Joakim Oldorff in the round of 32, it seemed like the Indian shuttler might face more problems in the tournament; however, his performance kept improving with every single match.

Sen has moved up one rank, as he was 14th in the global rankings last week. Meanwhile, his best-ever ranking has been 6, which he achieved four years ago, in November 2022.

Among other Indians, Tanvi Sharma has replaced Unnati Hooda as India’s number two in women’s singles. Hooda, who lost to Anmol Kharb in the Hylo Open quarter-finals, dropped two placed two WR-23 while Tanvi climbed a position to be ranked WR-21.
